    3DS MAX

    Ford Falcon Builder

I Guess this is somewhat related to here

What i'm out to achieve is to build a web application using Flash that allows people to select parts and build a car.

I'm basing it on the Australian Ford Falcon range and aiming to include:
    EA-ED
    EF/EL
    AU
    BA/BF

    It may expand from there.

What it will basically allow is for users to select A Base car model, then modify with different wheels/front/side/rear bodykit parts/lights.

Essentially it involves creating each part in a very low poly form and then loading them according to the users preferences.

I've been working on it for a few weeks, and have a lot of the base code complete.
Unfortunately with limitations in Flash the rendering is limited and can cause artifacts, but it should acheive what i want

Demo: Currently only has EF/EL model and limited parts.

A zoom function would be good.
Looking good so far, have you thought about posting this at Australian Ford Forums?
I didn't loose my mind, I just sold it on eBay

Oh. What site would that be?
I'm a member of Adelaide Cruzin Fords, I've heard about some unfair banning from AFF and MFC. It does seem stupid for banning people just because they are involved with another site.

basically, i'm part of E-Series Owners Club, AFF screwed us over.
We complained, they booted us from AFF.
We started our own site, and they banned most of the higher profile people on the new site.
i run E-Series Owners Club & Boosted Falcon • E-Series Owners Club & Boosted Falcon

Nice application you've got in progress, EFFalcon.
Make it polished enough and make it open to a few different makes,
I'm sure you could make a few bucks off that in the future.
My Uncle's workshop could benefit from something like this
on their website and come in real handy in the office.

Thanks for showing us your project.

Thanks, Yeah i'm hoping to get the Ford/Falcon side of it done first.
Its relatively robust enough to just dump correctly formatted 3d parts in it now so updates are easy.

other makes certainly wouldn't be hard to acheive.

Slowly making more progress.. had to clean up some of the earlier models so i'm slowly getting through that.
also discovering new ways to make them display a little better.
the inbuild renderer seems to perform a limited amount of smoothing to the mesh, or atleast to the rendered material it applies to the models.
By braking up various aspects of the models it helps emphasise details.

added a few more sets of tail lights/headlights etc, trim options and stuff to.
hopefully finish of the actual bodies of the cars soon so i can get stuck into wheels/bodykits

    Blender
    Really nicely executed
I only have a couple polishing suggestions

adding labels to the colour picker, so the user can see which part will change colour.
maybe changing the label on the "height" to "Ride hieght" - and perhaps a "Reset to stock" button.
I would have liked the parts to be populated from the onset, so if possible default all parts to stock.

But as I said its final touch-up stuff.

Are there any metrics involved with the ride height?, what I'm thinking is that there is a max. lowing limit with given wheel sizes (That I'm sure either you or fellow enthusiast can rattle off in your sleep ), if possible make the slider a differnt colour at the threshold or a critical height line or some such.

Just rattling off thoughts. It's going to be really cool to play with when done

    Thanks for the suggestions.
Deffinately stuff i'll look at doing for the final release.

as for the ride heights... i'm pretty much limited it to what i've seen done to the actual cars (give or take)
my actual car (EF) has air bag suspension so i can test the limits of max/min.

I would probably look at having some pre-sets for popular spring sets or something though.
