    Lexus LFA

It's been awhile since I've modeled a car so I've been working on this lately to get myself back into car modeling again

There are some messy areas on the mesh right now and I'll revisit those areas later on after I block out the rest of the exterior before I start adding details. I think I'm leaning towards GT5/FM3 kind of budget at 120-150k.

minor update, started work on the wheels.

Made high res rim which was used to bake out the normal map (2048x1024 map) for the low poly mesh. Will be starting on the brakes and calipers next.

I've created the brakes and the rubber for the wheel. Managed to fit everything onto the 2048x1024 map. Same technique with the rim, made a highpoly brake disc and then baked onto the lowpoly. Tire tread was also modeled in 3D to get the normal map, I tried using 2D methods through normal map filters but wasn't able to get the same result as from a highpoly 3D source. Sidewall was done through xnormal filter in Photoshop.

I'll make the diffuse, spec, glossiness maps next.

    Thanks for your comments!

Did texturing work on the wheels today. Just noticed that I've forgotten to model the rim nuts, will model and texture them probably tmr

As usual, realtime viewport screen grabs with Xoliulshader2. Quickly threw in the wheels with the car and so far I'm liking what I see!

    nice work dude !

bump on the sidewall could use less power .

    keep it up .

    Thanks for the feedback salim!

Some more work on the textures (included some small thumbnails of the texture breakdown). I've made some changes to the rubber textures to brighten it up by a little bit to simulate light wear and also because I felt the previous version was way too dark to see the tread pattern. I've also toned down the bump on the sidewall.

I think that's all of the texturing on the wheel for now so I can resume modeling again. Please leave any comments/feedbacks on the wheels if you have any. There's always a chance for me to revisit it later to touch-up

Thanks man. Yup, I made HD geometry for most of the wheel and then baked it into normal map. After that, I added additional details like scratches, etc to the normal map in Photoshop.

I've attached a quick screenshot breakdown and as you can see, the base model with no texture maps applied has some wonky reflections on the rim and rough smoothing making it look low poly. The normal map baked from a HD geometry really helps here since I don't have to go chamfer crazy on the low poly mesh to get smooth shading.

edit: now I'm really considering making a high res mesh of the car body too. It's more work but I think it'll paid off

Very nice indeed, it wouldnt make much sense to model a highpoly mesh for your car body though, with 150k tris you should be able to model everything (actually including the rims).

    Keep up the good work!

I agree with schaefft on this one, 150k is enough to get everything mega smooth
plus, normal maps can sometimes make the body look a bit false, not worth using unless you really have to

looking really nice though, keep it up!
