Lotus Elise GT1

Well this is an old project that I'm ashamed to say has been sitting on my HD for years. I know atleast 2. This was my first car in max. IMO this was one of the hardest cars to model so I thought why not. But I lost interest and it fell into a folder in my max waiting for such a day. Well with my new mapping knowledge on hand and the Aston mostly finished I thought why not try a bit more magic on it.

I chose this vehicle out of my many others for a few reasons.
1. it had waited patiently.
2. This is a road version BUT if I remodel some areas, and add a few things I could make it the race car, which in turn would give me a chance to try to do a livery for the car.

As it is now it is in its first version ever. This is the actually full carbon version which was featured in NFS2. I did play with carbon but I need to figure out how to make it look carbon, but at the same time not be so bright at the top when I bake it. I did a few new things to the model, such as cleaning up areas, rounding things out. I particularly focused on the headlights. I detached the insides of my lights leaving only the round shape of them. I then took a chamfer and did the edges, followed by a msmooth on the new inner edge. This helped keep the poly structure the way I had it when I initially modeled it. Anyhow enough blubbering, as it stands its 31k polys. Ive kept the same spokes, but added new wheel/tire to it. I went in and soft chamfered every edge that required it as well. I'll probably start on the interior soon, it shouldn't be too bad since its so easy and has no backseats hehe.

Looks great to me

Just a suggestion, I'd add these rows as shown in the pic.

schaefft : lol thanks, but as you see from Flash, not perfect .. but close j/k

Flash : thanks for the critique, I agree an implemented all those except the one in the center. The reason being it would just crowd way to much in in the door area if I were to do a complete cut. I see why it should have one but due to the door shape it would look bad

Nice project, I just love the choice of car. And modeling wise, it's really good. I hope you'll really keep working on it.

Tom : thanks I think I will its been a fairly easy car to work on so I'm happy

NE : lol nice to know you dont throw things away :D

Anyone : well its late and I'm heading to bed, but off and on I worked on the interior. I got a LOT done, dash, door frame built. Sadly got to redo the texture bake again, but no matter it had areas in it that needed work. Next on my list is the seats, steering column along with wheel and other small things in the interior. Wheel wells, and a damn engine. This will probably end up at the same count as the Vantage, not sure yet, but still quiet a few poly intense areas that need to be addressed. I also have to (BAH) do the wheel wells, usually the easiest thing to do on a car, but with this one not so, since you can see through to the wheel wells in both sets. Its at 37618 polys so its jumped quite a bit.

Why is the dashboard mirrored on the last pic?

Looking great and smooth: it's worth every poly it has
Rebaking is no big deal. After a few times it can only get better.

Here it is by the way

EDIT: I see that your bumper is different. Or is it the version?

What are you; stupid?!
- all the pictures BUT the last are mirrored

I am looking forward to see the new bake. I agree it is a shame you had to redo it, but on the other hand, even bad is good for something, and I am sure your new texture will look much better!
The mesh looks excellent, by the way, but you already know I love yo... err it!

Yes I know the size is disproportional in areas , and the flow is frantic, but this was just a test , this is on 1024, I did it in photoshop this time and I'm very pleased with the results, I will work on tuning the direction and stuff later, but this is a first test, and after that crap I went through with the baking problems ( see general discussion) I'm happy what I got done tonight.
