I'm completly new to the concept of modeling.
It's a positive start, having never ever been near Maya i can't comment on your setup (i'm a lightwave lad). But i'm really interesting to see how you progress with this one.
Good luck, you'll learn loads modelling a motor. Rich |

hey
hey man i see ur new to maya!
welcome to maya my frined; i currently use maya 6 as well; and i love it..much easier than 3dsmax too!!! ok mate about ur car; its a good start but your smoothing did not work!! u need moe definition lines in there to get the right shape after you smooth; definition lines are extra ...um..."edges" as we say in maya. you basically create extra edges and back them up by some moe edges so that when you smooth out ur car the shape comes out clean. for example; if an edge looks liek this: ----------- then you should add some definition lines to it to maybe make it look like this: ====== obviously too many definition liens will mess up ur mesh (mesh means the actual model) if you have any questions on maya or general modelling u cna ask me mate or fire me an email!!! |

i see you're using that Eclipse tutorial set from Digital-tutors.
I recently watched that, and i really wasn't impressed with that guy's low-poly base mesh, but i guess for learning purposes he did an okay job. are you planning on converting to sub-Ds like in the tutorial? if not, you should add more polies to the low-poly mesh to add round-ness and definition. good luck with learning, though, always good to see more people using Maya ![]() |

I'm completly new to the concept of modeling.
Doesn't look bad, no glaring normals errors like I get when I use polys. Thats basically the reason I use nurbs, even though Its harder to get the "precision" of polys. But if you're following a tutorial, you are, of course, excused.
Be really careful if you change to Sub-Ds, if you model anything like me you'll extrude a face and the extra vertices will cause sub-ds to make the mesh squarer, and you'll spend the next ten minutes cursing Maya. Keep trying, and if you master polys tell me how you did it!
