thanks dude

this cap took me about 2 minutes so I don't think that it will take that long before it's done

Woops, almost forgot to show you guys that I finished the model of the distributor-cap
Next thing will be the main engine block, but I think that I will start on the cylinder-cover and fan first

Very nice, cool car, good mesh (as near as I can tell).

I'm not familiar with this car, so starting as I did at page 2 I thought it was and entry for the 2035 comp!  Those fins give me an idea for my entry actually, so thanks!

*RedStar*: Thanks man!
seekerr: Thanks a lot. If you want more info on this car, which was raced in the early 70's, be sure to check out www.porsche917.com.ar !
I think the design of this car is timeless... even the paintjobs from back then are So feel free to borrow some design features of this legend!
PS: The Carrera GT has some of them as well

maybe in 2035 it will look like this, with a photon-yet-propulsion or something

well, not much special, but I made a start at the fan. It's extremely undetailed at the moment, but I want to make it blueprint-accurate before adding detail

In the real picture, red = what I'm currently modelling, green = what's done

Now I'm gonna remove my Graphics Device since the fan is not working right... Hope to get a new one soon!

Looks really good, but dont get bored now, somepeople tend to do it very detailed in the start but get bored in the end and dont continue with the detailed stuff, its a pitty.
But your looks good

thanks X-per and SubZeus!

X-per: I won't get bored. This is the best car ever built, in my opinion, and I certainly LOVE her.

Sub-Zeus: I could do that, but as far as I know, the hub and the fins are not made out of one piece... and are screwed together, or something like that (check the X-ray view: , it kinda shows that they are seperate pieces)

I'm sorry for not posting any updates today, but as I already told, my graphics card was damaged, but I went to the store and switched it for an improved edition of the same card  So more updates tomorrow!

thanks, those will be a pain in the ass, but I think I found something quite easy for that

At the moment, I'm modelling some bolts... I really hate this, since I used to have a tool called "Ornitorrinco", an automated tool for Rhino, which could create nuts, bolts, etc in a second...

but the download link at their site doesn't work... so I have to do it by hand

Anyways, here's the little work I did 2 minutes ago. Have to leave now to give a demo to some party people so please forgive me these UGLY Rhino renders...

KRiS83 Thanks! I will keep it up
rallydriver Wow, it amazes you? That's one thing I didn't hear before! Thanks!

Before I leave for the demo, here's the ultimate final picture for this afternoon

These "trumpets" (that's what I like to call them), are kinda temporary, but that gives you the idea of the complete engine
Also, I gave the blades a little twist, thanks to majestic, who got me looking closer to them

I forsee another World's Only HOpe type thread.... hehe Everyone thought he was crazy with his truck idea when he onlly started with the tires and wheels. now that thread is huge with an extremely detaild work of art... that even has luggage and tool set to boot IF this carrys onthis 917 will be super sweet as well

well, he inspired me a little bit

Before seeing his thread I thought: "Why model what you can't see?"
After seeing his stuff I thought: "Why only model the outside?"
Now I see it like this: "Wow, this is quite cool, modelling something else than only plate-metal on a car "

what do you guys think that looks better?
the engine on the left, or on the right (note that they are both the same engines, but one has the "trumpets" fitted in a plate, the other one doesn't)

i like the one without the plate, on the right.
