[3D Modell] Patriot Missile and Air Defense System

Hello there

I found this board while I was searching for some reference images for my patriot system.

So I thought why don't I show you my work. So here's my patriot system. I would be pleased if you comment it.

Looks interesting! Now all you need is something under it to make it mobile. Maybe a 1970 VW Bug, mount it to the roof. (Just kidding)

Try to learn something new each day!

 Yeah I'm working on it at the moment. But I do not find any good reference images for the mount on the turning plattform. So if anyone has some good images of that part. Please let me know.

this looks really nice! I especially like the first render. Is that the Illustrate-plugin?

I actually got to "use" a patriot launcher about 18 years ago, (I was 4 years old back then), at a Dutch military show.

Tried finding some mount pics! Boy they are not around! From what I did see though you should be able to model something easy enough. You have two rams mounted to the front of a platform that is about half the length of the cases/launcher you have modeled. The one end of the launchers are just pivot mounted to the platform by the two inner tabs. I would then think that there's a turntable just off center and to the rear for the platform to rotate the whole assembly on. The turntable would be what is mounted to the vehicle. And don't forget it'll need downriggers.

Try to learn something new each day!

Nice work so far Skoop. I'm new to this site...but like you i once made me some patriot (PAC2-PAC3-Radar) models. I modeled them about 2 years ago for a game-simulation (OFP/VBS1), but due to the (extreme cfg and scripting) it ended in static/unfinished textured models.

I still have some pics of the PAC2-3 i used. No blueprints, but some good ref. pics. I've uploaded them to: http://users.pandora.be/EEChome/patriotscreens.rar
(i will delete them in a week or so..if i still remember )
Hope it helps.

Looking forward for next update  .

very cool renders. cant say much about the object itself cause i pretty much barely know how a gun and a bullet looks like.

I assume you are using FinalRender with FinalToon. very cool effect on the renders. correct me if im wrong.

I will keep the updates coming  And I hope you did not delete your old files, maybe you wanna finish them at the end  , when you see what i made of mine  .

No, not the first neigher the second. I did not use FinalRender and I did not use FinalToon, this images were simply done within 3D StudioMax5 with a lightsetting of three groups of three omni-lights and one skylight. The toonlike lines were done by copying the the entire mesh, then adding a push modifier with a amout of 0.5 and a black material with wire checkbox enabled. That's all. The rest is afterworks with photoshop.

@Skoop: good to hear you can use the ref. pic., but i just noticed you're from Germany. So i was just wondering if you are making the US (trailer version) or the BW (German) patriot truck (http://www.panzerbaer.de/guns/bw_flarak_patriot-a.htm?

Anyway, glad to help.

Huh, good question, isn't it? Well I haven't thought of that yet. Due to the fact that both systems (trailer and truck) use the same mount constructions I will first build this thing and then check out where to go. The trailer is a bit more easy to model, but where should the patriot go, without a truck?

So let me first finish the mainpart then we can discuss whether a truck or a trailer will be better for presentation and so on.
