Bubble-1000 Concept Compact Car

Hi all, my first post here. A compact car. Normally I don't like these little bubble cars, so I thought I would try and create one that looks a little sporty. This is also my first car.

The body is just rough at the moment, I wont start modelling the details till I'm happy with the shape. The wheels are just temporary as well.

Comments & Critiques welcome.

This looks a lot like the new suzuki swift, only even shorter and more bubbly! I really don't think you should lose the wheels, they look pretty cool to me (maybe too cool for the car?).

Anyhow, I think this should get just a little longer, at the moment it looks more cartoon than sporty, and would be terribly impracticle if, for example, you wanted to carry anything more than a small umbrella

No comments on the modelling, this is only rough, and it looks fine anyway!

Thanks for the comments seekerr ...

As for looking like a suzuki, or anything else, I'm trying hard not to look like anything else, and when the car was a little longer, it was looking like a beetle. :?
As for the size, I had it laid up against a new Mini, and it's definitly shorter than that, but bigger than a Smart. It's only going to be a two seater, so I think there should be some space for at least the shopping in the back
And sporty or cartoonish, I don't really mind, as long as it doesn't look ugly

Anyway, I'll plug away, hopefully I can have some updates up soon, if my real work doesn't get in the way

ps, I've attached the first wip, when it was longer, it might have looked better, but I thought it was too long to fit into the compact car category, and with only a 1000cc motor inside, the engine bay was way too big.

Windshield Index

Hi,

Does anyone know what index of refraction windshield glass should be? I've used a standard glass refraction setting, but it looks too strong.

Thanks,
Rod

I know of a site with an excellent glass material, but I don't have time to find it right now, so if you're patient, lol, I'll have it for you later. That is if you haven't gotten one by then anyway, but I need to go to school .

One question, atm, what is with the see-through fender skirt?

Thanks 33x,

I only need an appropriate IoR value for windshields, I'm happy with my glass material apart from that setting.

But I'd still be interested in your link, thanks.

As for the see-through skirt, it is just an experiement, I might ditch it. I'll try a version with a normal fender.

index of refraction for glass is around 1.51714 to 1.75 approximately. The car looks nice btw! When it comes to models though I believe you will want a setting of 1. So as not to distort the view through the window to the interior.

Try to learn something new each day!

Thanks for the nice words...
I think I've got around 1.5 on there now.

Ok, I've just done a google, and some scientific folks have confirmed the index for me. I'll post these here because they might be helpful for others.

Table 1. Index of Refraction Ranges for Several Types of Glasses
Headlight glass 1.47-1.49
Television glass 1.49-1.51
Window glass 1.51-1.52
Bottles 1.51-1.52
Ophthalmic lenses 1.52-1.53
Table taken from Saferstein, R., Criminalistics Lab Manual, p. 30

Table 2. Index of Refraction for Specific Glasses
Windshield glass 1 1.518
Windshield glass 2 1.520
Headlight glass from Toyota Celica 1.478
Headlight glass from Chevrolet Eurosport 1.488
Headlight glass from Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera 1.488
Headlight glass from Toyota Corolla 1.478
Bottle glass from Lipton Iced Tea 1.524

So my material is about right... and I was just thinking, it probably looks weird as there is no thickness to the glass yet. Oh well at least I found out that the headlight glass from a Toyota Corolla is 1.478.
