It's not dead yet...
Hi all
Thanks for your replies. I have found some time to continue work lately, but it's still moving slowly. I will post pictures of the car soon, but first I will show a little problem I have. I'm a nut at controlling meshsmooth, so that's probably why this looks so weird. Any ideas how to get rid of this problem is greatly appreciated. Explanation, then pictures. I use meshsmooth with 3 iterations and smoothness 1,0 on all three objects. The edges of the grill is not chamfered, instead I used 'crease 1,0' I want the edges of the two bumper parts to follow the small inlay in the grill. As you can see, it now makes a triangular hole instead. |

My concept is BACK (but not finished ;O)
i always get that when i'm comming to a specific point with different lines
that you get a little triangle or something like that, mostly i change them to squares then with a cut and some target welding, dunno if it'll help ![]() i'm just a complete noob tbh but it's worth a try |

It's normal that your mesh looks like this after meshsmooth
![]() I've made a quick recreation of your mesh, and changed it, to look ok. You will have to add two new vertices (actually a group of them after chamfering) and place it in the right place. I know, that un-meshsmoothed mesh looks weird, but IMHO it's the only way like it kan be made. One more thing - I didn't use crease parameter here. I hope that this will help you ![]() |

Marqus:
That's a good work-around, although I hate that the unsmoothed mesh have to be off like that. The sad thing is, I can't even try it. Max crashes when I open my project. I saved last night and exited the programme and now it won't open it. I don't know what's wrong, since it won't even open the 4 backup files either... It looks like I have to start all over, and I'm not sure I want to do that after spending so much time on it. I guess it's time for a new car... Claus |

My concept is BACK (but not finished ;O)
Hi all
NightEye: I have done a reasonably hefty amount of searching on the topic, and it doesn't look too good. It seems that XP SP2 and max are not very fond of each other in the first place, and on top of that, one of MS' hotfixes really made things worse. So until MS or Discreet come up with a solution, these corrupt savings are something SP2 users will have to learn to live with... I haven't been able to recover the car. I only have a very old version, and I think it would be faster to redo the car from scratch. But I'm not sure I want to do that either... Shish... time for a new car, I guess... Claus |
