Alfa Romeo concept

First post here, just found this forum and lots of good work so far so I thought I'd share mine. It's still very much a WIP and is for a school project, and lots of parts and details aren't modelled or are temporary (such as the wheels/interior).

Influences are a little bit Alfa, TVR, Jaguar, etc. Aim was for more of a classic design, and I'm pretty happy with it. Have to start modelling the smaller details. The interior is temporary, and probably won't be finished, just there for a bit more realism.

I still need alot of work on the lighting/materials too. But compared to the rest of my class it's miles above so I'm not too worried.

Thanks for sharing your work with us and welcome to the forums.

The model looks cool, I can see alot of Alfa Romeo lines in it so thats cool. Also some TVR as you said. Reflections is a bit over the top though but a very good job over all !!

Yeah, I still need alot of work on the rendering side of it. Prior to this my knowledge of Maya shaders was non-existant, so its not too bad of a start but I definately need to try and find a lighting setup/shader that works better for the final rendition.

The materials aren't too bad, you just need to tone down the reflections a LOT. You could use some help with lighting a bit too. On the modeling side, superb work

Car looks great but either its coming off as too narrow or the fenders are too tall (top of them on the front wheels) But then again its your baby, but thats my 10cents keep it up, and work on the renders a bit

Hmm............good looking concept.
And i see enough details that are typical Alfa Romeo.
the front lights resemble the Spider/GTV, mirrors look like those of the production-Brera.
The lines look like a mixture of a bit 8C Competizione, Aston Martin and TVR.

My compliments.

Got the pleasure of driving Alfa Romeo

Thanks. I think the wheel size might be throwing you off a bit and making the car seem smaller then it really is. Proportionwise the car is almost identical to a Ferrari 612 Scaglietti. The rims on there right now are gigantic and completely tucked into the fenders, which make it feel a bit smaller. I think once I work on that itll help the proportion a bit.

Thanks for the kind words though. This was my first real project that got to a completed stage, and also my first time working with Sub-Division surfaces, shaders, rendering and a bunch of other features in Maya that I've never touched before.

Hopefully next week I'll have more time to work on the lighting and materials. Have to have this finished up by the 1st week of May when the Semester ends.

Now my biggest worry is getting the wheel/tire to look realistic.

Some progress after a few weeks of nothing. Trying to the small things dialed in at this point, namely the materials/lighting. I seem to get the materials the way I like, but then I need to change the lighting and it messes up the materials again. I think the new lighting setup is working a bit better. Some other small stuff added like wheels/brakes.

Need to hand this in on Tuesday, so at this point other then a few small quick details like the wipers and such, it's pretty close to done. I had a much nicer displacement map on the tire but it started killing my render times and the one I have now sucks, but is fast. I'll change that at the very end when I'm doing the final renders. I may go back and touch things up later on, but I think theres a good chance I may just use this for a base on my next model and start the rest fresh. Still a pretty good finished product for my first time I think.
