WIP (my first car) 1984 Chevrolet Montecarlo SS
Hey all, this is my first car model ever, so please C & C so I may learn. I was told I have tons of potential, and I have modeled boats before, but did not use Max 7 to the fullest. I am now learning bit by bit. Thank you for your patience and comments.

Ill work on it
Hey guys, thanks, and I thought I was doing great. LOL Well the thing is that in max my blueprints look like crap, Ive included a screenshot. Thats the reasn why most times I have to guesstimate. If you guys know a way to be able to see all the tiniest details let me know, as i can follow blueprints perfectly. I am really enjoying modeling, I have a chevy s-10 Xtreme and I want to model it next, but first I want to tackle this one to prepare me for the other one.

after a few corner chamfers
This forum is great, ive seen some of the work and it's awe inspiring. I went and chamfered a bit, (chamfering does not like me) I can never get the exact effect I want. I guess that come with experience and pleanty of made up words! LOL Can anyone point me to a good tutorial about chamfering and maybe even mesh smooth. The method I use to make the cars is the one used in the RX-8 tutorial thats around.

OMG! How in hell can you follow that crapy blueprint!! The problem you are getting is with your viewport configuration. As I can see the blueprints have a good quality, but are not displayed properly in MAX.
You are (probably) either using HEIDI or DirectX. Switch to OpenGL and go to Customize -> Preferences -> Viewports -> Configure Driver, check the two "Match Bitmap a Close as Possible" boxes and set the "background Texture Size" and "Download Texture Size" as high as you can. Restart Max. Hope that helps you with those blueprints.- Nice model for a 1st try |

You don'ty have to switch to OpenGL - DirectX will do too. You have to check with which driver your GFX card will have better performance.
Make what Mylanthius said, you may also check the 'Anisotropic' on the texel lookup group and 'linear' on mipmap lookup group - textures will look better in the viewports, but performance may go down. |

Awesome Website, Ive learned so much from max within the least week that its insane, I have postponed the montecarlo project until I finish a skyline I started. The skyline will teach me to make the Montecarlos square lines. After I finish those two I am going to go to a Chevrolet s-10 Xtreme which is what I drive!!! Thanks for the support and advise! Also, I already fixed the blueprints display problem my computer Specs are P4 3.4 HT 512 DDR 3200 Ram 200 GB SATA Maxtor! And an ATI Radeon X700 XT 256 mb ddr3 Running on Omega drivers! |
