Hi There!

I thought I could start my first post by posting the first render of my first car to ask for your comments and suggestions.

BTW this is a Subaru Impreza old model for those of you wondering and the red color is just a test which I thought looked good but this not a final render. It's been modelled in Maya 6 and render using Mental Ray.

Looking nice. Maybe you can model the headlights and use a bump map for the glass for a more realistic look.

The transition from the hood to the grill looks really bad..
Those covers for the lights are supposed to bend at the bottom, not make a cut in the bumper
The corners of the blinkers are way too round.
Also, you forgot the Subaru logo

Yo The Netherlands! Thank you for your comments, I appreciate, I'm working on the headlights and they're giving me a hard time.
As for the modelling part, NightEye, well you're right but this is not my intention to make it accurate, I do it my way with no logo :wink:
It's more a rendering exercise for me than modelling.

Anyway, here is a new shot, black paint, HDRI test :roll:

cool ! i prefer the red one ! hehehe (it's me, Randhy).

the HDRi version is a bit too dark. if u're rendered it with FG, try to change ur camera's env color (something brighter), as well as changing ur background's material's diffuse color (to 1 or usually .95 will do).

is it NURBS ? mind if i asked you to post some wire ?

Thanks for your suggestions Randhy, I use FG but I don't know if I'm doing it right because changing the env color doesn't affect anything with an image based <a target="_blank" href="http://www./text/search.php?qq=Lighting">lighting</a>.
This is Poly and not Nurbs, I wish I could model like you using Nurbs. I first tried but had to give up, just not used to it, but I will give it another try. I'm waiting for your tutorial on Nurbs modelling ops:
And finally mind if I ask how we can render a shaded version with wireframe on it in Maya?

Thanks, not only I could use some wires, but I'd like to see the finished model. Where can I see that? Also I've read that there has been a Subaru Impreza contest on this forum, but where can we check the results?

Here's another test render, I've tried to improve the headlights but I think they still suck. Could someone help me on this please?

About the headlight, I think you need to something with the blinker

Looking great, I have that car although not the rally version, looks very accurate, you just need to work on those front lights though

here is the first model I produced, not as accurate as yours but its not bad considering i never had blueprints.

NightEye: I think, that you didn't noticed something Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this C3's thread? The last pic wasn't his... It's Scoobyboy's, so IMHO we shouldn't comment it here.

C3: Texturized lamps don't look good - model them, and the will look much better. Rest looks nice

BTW scoobyboy thanks for posting your render because I love the ligthing and I'm going to ask you where did you get this HDRI? Can you share it or where can we get it? ops:
