Nissan Z - All NURBS project

Here's the very basic shape with a little detailing on the front end. I'm making it an all NURBS project and the tesselation isn't set correctly which is why the renders are a little jaggy. The thing I love about NURBS is the way you can fillet between surfaces with ease. Check out the real close pic of the front grill. To fillet between surfaces like that would be tricky and time consuming with polys, but with NURBS it takes just seconds.

Indeed. I like the quality of the model but it's rather off.

Nissan Z - All NURBS project

Please be specific on the things that don't look right. Orthographically it fits my reference pics exactly, and here's a couple of other non orthographic references I've been using. Also, it is a WIP

Yeah, it may be a little off, except it's correct in my orthographic top view. It's hard to get perfect reference pics, and it's usually a trade off between using photos that are not 100% orthographic, or blueprints which are usually a little off due to the artist who drew them not being perfect. The doors and lower edge of the sides are currently just the very basic shape, I know that the real car has a rounded lower door, but haven't gotten around to fixing that yet. Keep the comments coming, every set of eyes sees another problem that needs fixing.

The biggest mistake i found on the front end. There should be rather sharp edges there. Look at ref pics.

Lots of good ref pics @ http://www.dieselstation.com/archive/350Z/index.shtml

o.j thanks for the link, lots of good stuff on that site, especially for the interior when I'm finished with the body. You're right about that front edge, it should be sharper. Luckily it's an easy fix with NURBS. Just throw in an extra isoparm on either side of the edge and then pull out the center vertices. I'll correct that later, right now I'm working on getting the rest of the body shaped, and then I'll hit the details again.

Seiyuusha. I'm modeling in maya 6.0, same as you I think. It was actually your beetle that inspired me to try an all NURBS model. NURBS have their disadvantages, but right now I think I prefer it. Getting the trims to stay tangent is the hardest part. Anyway, I'll post a wire frame tomorrow after work (sekolah bahasa Indonesia  ).
