Enzo - Noob needs help
Hi
Im new to this forum, recently started using 3ds max in my own time. Currently working on my 1st car the Enzo, prob not the best choice I know. Anyway, i've done a rough poly model, see attached, but cant seem to smooth it out well. Any suggestions welcome, im willing to redo model using splines but find poly easier. No rendering effects/textures obviously, just the mesh |

Hey
Glad u said forget splines! Ive read a load of tutorials but this is my first attempt, was goin ok'ish i thought until i tried to smooth it all out I think the problem is with the density and formation of my mesh Any recommendations? |

Don't disregard spline modeling so quickly. Fact is, spline/NURBS modeling is the standard for real-life industrial design. Software such as Alias's Studio Tools is used by many top car manufacturers, and that is exclusively NURBS/splines. It may be a little harder to start with as there are problems unique to spline modeling, but the final results can be second to none. However, for the pure fun of modeling, polys can be quick, easily learned, and produce great results if you get good at it. Try both and see which you like best. Here's a link for a tutorial with NURBS modeling, it's for MAYA but is applicable for most other software types.
www.3dtotal.com (go to "free stuff>tutorials>then scroll down to a 4 part tutorial on modeling a BMW) Also, I attached a couple of images I found from SAAB and Land Rover showing the capabilities of spline modeling. |

Yep, modelling with Nurbs in Alias Studiotools is great. Nearly every car manufacturer uses Studiotools. Its a great application. I've done my Retro-Racer with Studiotools too.

Cheers 4 all the advice
I think my original post was a bit confusing, i wasnt dis-regarding splines or nurbs, i just find it easier to model with polys. From what i have read, and from what you have said splines are the better option Still gona learn polys first tho Thanks again |
