here is my first pathetic attempt at a plane..i have loved the old prop planes sence i was born, my grand daddy flew 'em in wwII

Nice start, but it looks a bit too squarish (is there such a word?) to me; both the fuselage and the wings. Airfoil shape for relatively slow flying single prop plane like this one should be much rounder. I suggest finding enough reference photos before going any further. http://www.airliners.net/search/ is a good place to start.
