Mazda Miata mk1

While I wait for the SA filter to be made for zmod, I'll be working on this to pass the time.

Started about 3 hours ago and have this so far. The driving light area was a pain and it's still not quite right, but close enough for me to move on. I'll get back to it later. Lots of details still missing such as the little bump on the hood and the body lines. Those will all come after the main body is modelled.

Got a nearly endless supply of ref pics thanks to ebay, so even though the prints don't quite line up I should be able to get it pretty close. Ah....and hopefully this will be for SA as well.

The headlight. I haven't done body lines and stuff like that yet so it's still attached.

Got the front bumper done. Almost looks like a smiling face from the front.

I'm gonna work down the side first and then do the rear deck and back end.

Yes, just as I said in my first post.*

Should have pic updates later on tonight.

Edit- Almost done with the basic exterior. Just the area behind the rear wheel to go pretty much. After that I'll go back and start on the details.

Re: Mazda Miata mk1

I find it easier to get the actual hood shape done and then mess with it by adding scoops, bumps and whatnot. The bump are is only going to affect at most a dozen polies anyway.

Got the rear deck done along with most of the back end. The bp didn't show the little curve at the lip of the trunklid, so I almost missed it. I still need to mess the the back panel. Something about it doesn't look right when I compare it with pics. I'll get it sorted and then move to the bumper.

Re: Mazda Miata mk1

looks pretty good so far... what blueprints are you using? this car is an odd one to figure out on the front end... the bodywork under the grille seems a bit awkwardly shaped heheheh... that's one reason I haven't completed mine

anyway, looks a lot better than my first (and only so far) attempt at this car

Re: Mazda Miata mk1

Flash_Gordon: Yeah, probably a bit more than necessary. Something about me just always want to add one or two more polies to a curve to make it just a little smoother. Sometimes I get a bit carried away. ops:

mulimediaman: Yeah, the whole car is hard to figure out. It's like one big curve with a few edges tacked on. For prints I'm using http://www.smcars.net/forums/index.php?topic=6736.0 for the top and http://www.smcars.net/forums/index.php?topic=5465.0 for the front, side, and rear. Don't line up very good, but there's tons of pics available via ebay.

Thanks for the comments so far.

Re: Mazda Miata mk1

Starting on some of the exterior details. Got the crease that runs round the whole body done as well as the one under the door. Also got the little hood bump done, though I'll need to check it with normals to see if it looks right. Still a lot of stuff to do though.

For the damaged version I will, but since GTA uses an ok version and a damaged version, the door doesn't need that many polies.

Re: Mazda Miata mk1

Got the hood, trunklid, and convertible top done. I plan on making the soft-top up and a hardtop as well. Those will probably come near the end since they will be based completely off of ref pics.

Poly count at the moment is a tick over 4500, but some of that can be taken away with the undamaged parts (such as the detail on the underside of the hood and tunk lid).
