1990 Pontiac Grand Prix

alrighty then... I've decided to start with the making of the the introduction movie to "Motor City : Crime Nightmare"

...

so let me explain a little bit.

First off, Motor City is a sprawling city which is heavily based around vehicles and general transportation. It is also controversial in this way. Deemed the "amusement park with permanent residents," the city's highway and road system has gathered the attention of all sorts of folks. Some even decide to take vacations there just to see what all the fuss is about. Even alerting the governor of Texas, and even the president of the Texas Department of Public Safety... But they are part of the movie once it starts. I want this movie to flow JUST like you'd see a game. This "intro" movie sequence is supposed to act as the loading/credits screen that games have nowadays.... Then after that plays, the real intro sequence happens.

But anyway, since I forecast that people's participation in such things as donating blueprints of cars, donating reference pictures of themselves, donating voice-overs, any business who actually lets me take pictures of their buildings and/or interiors, they will get put into the credits. And since this is such a big help to me, I want to showcase them as much as I can, so that's why there's both credits at the beginning as well as the ending. ... anyway...

the intro will be a bunch of views of this extreme-detail 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix. Then it'll switch to some extreme detail environments... then back to the grand prix in those environments, which at that point, it'll turn on, and drive off, ... sequencing then to a scene where the car, (low poly now) is seen from a top view, and the camera is zooming out from the extreme-detail (now low poly as well) driveway, and the zoom goes all the way out until you can see at least 10 blocks, and then the view slowly fades out into Motor City's logo.

anyway, without further ado, here's the first pictures of the car. I'm building it from a Revell model kit, and trying to replicate exactly what I see, unless of course, I know something's going to be covered up. Right now I'm working on the engine/transmission. Current face count : 1500

Re: 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix

here's another quick update... the thing is at 11,273 faces so far.

engine related, I've got the fanbelt mounts, the fanbelts & wheels, the air cleaner & Fuel injector, the exhaust manifold, and then the suspension and half shafts to make, then it's onto the chassis w00h00!

it might seem ludicrous, but being the humongous fan of textures that I am, I also plan on texturing this beast. Not a small task given that I'm on max 4.2 and don't have any fancy unwrap features

Re: 1990 Pontiac Grand Prix

dag nabbit ... pitiful 3dsmax 4.2 ... I hate you!

... looks like this will be my last update on this ... at least, last until I can upgrade to max 7.

PLEASE tell me that's more stable than max 4! plleeeaasseeeee! ... it really is pathetic though:

I have to make soooo many backups of my files in case something screws up ... and I don't know that there's an issue with my mesh at this point, it's just displaying certain things at certain times, or doing too much of an action crashes max ... this is crazy... almost enough to make me consider straying away from discreet if this trend keeps up with max 7...

anyway, last update... this dern new part on the engine (best visible on the top left, bottom left, and bottom right views) ... this part took almost 5 hours to make O___o

... would've taken 3 hours if I had been paying complete attention to the project, and about 2 hours if I didn't have so much darn troubleshooting and problem solving, just to keep MAX from crapping out on me

but yeah, file = too prolematic right now... I don't even have inspiration to work with this instability. ... so I guess it's just creating gran turismo 4 blueprints for a very long time now O_O. :x
