2006-spec WRC impreza

Hello all,

I started doing this recently, when word arrived that the family was getting one of the 2.0Rs. My base reference is the '05 spec STi, and I'm using the concept art from the subaru page along with the '06 prototype pics to try and get the aggressive look that suby envisioned in their concept work, instead of the hairdresser (imo) look that actually came out. I thought I'd post what I've done so far on the nose and get some feedback before I got too far along.

Anyway, post your suggestions/tips, good or bad, I don't mind, I want this thing to look good.

EDIT: Might be a good idea to put up my reference image so you know which concept art I'm talking about

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

I could've sworn there were blueprints posted in the donation section here one point, now I can't find them in any sections anywhere for the life of me

if you ask me, I like the new look. I'm glad I got mine when I did (2004 model) but I wouldn't mind having one this style either...

anyway, just wondering if anyone knew what happened to those prints ... they looked pretty decent to me too...

Back on topic of your post, it looks like you've got it quite well started ... I think there might be some curvature in the front end that might be off, but it's been so long since I've looked at one of them things up close and personal that I just don't remember it well enough. But yeah, yours is looking quite good so far... especially for not having actual prints of it.

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

I used to be a subaru fan, used to love the sti's, but the new 2006 one has turned me off, i dont really like the front grill/nose shape - its so... un-wrx like?

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

Will - yes please. I'll PM my e-mail.

And I'm still searching for prints, but I think its better this way, as I tend to trace more than model when I've got blueprints in the background. This way I can add some of my own style to it.

I really like the concept artwork, which looks quite mean, but I understand where a lot of people are coming from when they look at the street model i/R/WRX. Of course, nothing wider guards and an STi wing/mid-wing wont fix

Nearly finished refining the front, will post in a few hours.

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

you are lucky person of getting the subaru as a familly car
nice lowpoly model, but i think, that you need thise edges to the model(red lines near the headlight)

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

Interestingly enough, I checked these forums just after I finished adding those edges... must be one of those ESP things. And I'm actually paying for a bit of the car (excluding mods) since my parents were gonna get the 'i' version, and I want the 'R'. So I'll be eating noodles and wearing old clothes for a while... always wondered why a lot of the guys at autosalon had horrendous fashion taste given the beautiful cars

EDIT: Forgot to thank will_ for his closeups. Fixed up that air-splitter and adjusted the bumper verts in those pixies too.

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

Update: Finished the basic shell. Need to detail it and then I think I'll do the wheels for a change before I do the windows and exterior detail parts.

I think the sill panel (skirt) needs a bit of work, but I can't find any closeups that are good enough to work off. Anyone seen those blueprints yet?

Also, it looks like its got a bit of a fat arse, so I need to tweak the rear guards. I think I've exaggerated the bulge because the references I have are a bit straighter, but I can't be sure :S Any help in this area would be appreciated. Other comments, suggestions and cirticisms would be good too. I'll put the raytrace material I got off SMCars on it in the shade I want when I've finished the shell.

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

Update: Finished the shell, made some rims, made some plates.

And before you ask: Its a bit of an in-joke with my mates that I've put Learner ("L") or Provisional ("P") plates on all of the cars I've modelled. I guess when I upgrade to a full licence I'll need some hoon ("H") plates.

<tumbleweed>

OK OK you probably missed that joke if you aren't from down here. I just woke up, gimme a break

Hit me with all you've got... Good or bad I can take it. Its an LP mesh, but the rims are 1960 polys each

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

Mirrors and door handles added.

Is there a way to render the wires over the model without having to export the UV map to a bitmap and then reapply as a material?

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

You mean a wire overlay ontop of the polygons, without having to uv map? Not that i know of, i there may be plugins for that sort of thing though.

yes, you must copy the object, use a modifier called Extend I think, or shell, it scales every vertice by it's normal direction. Then apply a wire material to the scaled object.

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

Side windows, sills, a lot of chamfers, and a showroom scene... Need to chamfer the rear wing some, and tweak the blue impreza's paint and rim materials.

If you've got any comments don't be afraid to post them. And masarka I think I might actually try that when I'm done. Or I'll put the finished model here and let someone that people export it to whatever they want. I can open RBR files with Zmodeler 2 but I'm not sure if I can export them.

Polywastage like no other 8o
Other than that, it looks like a nice model

Lol thats cool I wasn't working to a budget. Kinda mid-poly style. I'll have some renders of my new work soon.

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

the color levels need to be toned down in the renders, can barely make out the cars, just extremely bright red blobs at the moment

Re: 2006-spec WRC impreza

I dont think the poly wastage is too bad really.....you have a very nice model there..
I will say that that the renders arent doing it justice though..that wooden ground plane and the red paint makes my eyes bleed
