First Car, BMW 330 E46
Merry Christmas!
I've started my second attempt at my first model, and thought it would be a good time for help and comment. I am using a tutorial for a similar car (Audi A3) to guide me though. Grab that here >>>> http://www.3d-palace.com/tmas/video.php?vid=63 (You do need to sign up, but its worth it )This is going to be animated into a very short chase scene as a Christmas gift. Here's pics from day one. EDIT: Speaking of chase scene, does anyone have an 18 wheeler truck model I could borrow? ![]()

Re: First Car, BMW 330 E46
yeah, those bumps are from an ugly mesh, i'm gonna work on that before moving on to more of the details. btw, some of the details are going to be off because i couldn't find the prints to match my car (i'm trying to model the one i own). all i have is hundreds of ref pics and lack of experience
![]() thanks for the truck reference xsi ![]()

Re: First Car, BMW 330 E46
nice choice of car
![]() i would suggest that the second bump from the right hand side can be removed, if you look closely at your ref pic you posted. you can see that it is a very small/slight slope towards the front end of the bumper and that it seems to be pointed. you can fix that in your mesh if you convert that polygon into a tri, so that in the front end you will have the long point of the tri and maybe it will look better. but right now i would like you to look at your hood. it's terribly messy. try to aling the vertices to the lines you have on your bp it will look a lot smoother. i know handling so many polygons is extremely difficult (i'm experiencing a lot of probs too with my audi a3 :roll .cya Silent ![]() I'm a Prefectionist |

Re: First Car, BMW 330 E46
Most of the mesh errors are caused by unwanted tris in quite a lot of places. Just weld them together. If you want me to point out where you should ho so just say so and i'll do it gladly. Cheers.

Re: First Car, BMW 330 E46
Before I start again, I made changes to the blueprints on photoshop to match my bodykit. The first (10.jpg) is the original and the second (9.jpg) is my edit.
EDIT: Added a quick render of the modified bumper. All I can do for the day. ![]()

Re: First Car, BMW 330 E46
Started separation and front details, but im having a problem with the largest grill with the lattuce-like material. I need to add a bend modifier, but the white box surrounding the lattuce (highlighted in yellow) is diamond shaped and needs to be rotated to a square shape (red) without rotating the whole model. I cant seem to figure this one out.
EDIT: New problem. I got the white box where I want it and got the lattuce ready for a symetry and bend modifier, but now it thinks that it needs to align itself to the spot where the red X is (under the move box). How can I reset where the model aligns itself? ![]()

Re: First Car, BMW 330 E46
i have a few problems that have been keeping me from continuing and updating.
Problem 1: my cut tool causes a fatal windows error (probably unresolvable) and frustrates me to the point of not being motivated to continue Problem 2: when i create a new shape, the shape does not appear i know i must have hit a hotkey for problem 2 on accident; is there any way to fix this? ![]()
