Lightwave : Long time for Rendering

my pc is P3 1.3 Ghz, 320 SDRAM, with a Video Card GeForce 4 64 DDR, Lightwave take alot of time to render a body on a resolution of 640x480, Antialiasing 9, when I use 3ds max, it took me ony about 20-30 seconds, anyone know what is the problem here with lightwave ??, or maybe the windows ??

What times are we talking about ?
Not a LW user myself so I cant give specific answers ...
Lightwaves renderengine has alot of nice settings to play with ... did you enalbe radiosity, lighttracing, GI or any advanced lighting features, those will make you rendertimes increase alot ?

Is antialiasing 9 high for LW ? I would guess that's what makes it slower then ..

When rendering my 288 GTO (3dsmax, Brazil) I had rendertimes around 1 hour to 1,5 hour per image ... and that was pretty fast.

Videocard type dont matter when rendering, its just processor and RAM work.

Aha, with all those enabled 4:30 hours is pretty normal I think.

I think LW's engine isnt as fast as maybe finalRender, VRay or Brazil for 3dsmax .. but its pretty cool anyway since its the standard renderer for LW.

my longest render in light wave was 15 hours, lol and then my computer crashed well it does have to do with lightwave but if you get a memory upgrade, it wouldnt hurt

upgrade your ****ty computer

lw radiosity render is basically 'brute force' thats why it's slow

at that resolution, its no wonder it took 15 hours. probly coulda saved yourself a few hours by reducing the res, but i'm sure you had your reasons.

lol, maj you're just on every forum that has to do with modeling aren't you?

radiosity is definately the killer here. Everything else is pretty much childs play, but that 1.3 GHz PIII isn't doing you any favors either. Like has been said, feel lucky it only took 4 hours

Hmmm...I have never had to wait more than a few minutes for my renders with any of the models I have made in LW. I have a fully customed computer that wasn't cheap, but it couldnt cut off 10 hours or so?!

Short: No

It all depends on which rendering features you enable.

The new generation of renderers on the market Brazil, V-Ray, finalRender, Mental Ray, RenderMan etc ... all have very advanced lighting features.

and they all demand lots and lots of computation ... Radiosity, Global Illumination, Caustics, Light Tracing, "real" DoF & Motion Blur etc etc ...

A good machine will do it faster but it wont cut several hours on a single P4 1.4 GHz or so to just a few minutes. But for the crafty one there is way to fake somefeatures to save rendertime

So when you set up your car for the final rendering you often enable lots of nice things .. and up your AA sampling etc ... and get very long render times.
