Re: Low-poly Car Contest: Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6

I'm sorry, I don't mean to spoil the fun.
But your textures lack something very important: depth.
Besides that the bodylines are barely visible, look at the front light.

In order to get some depth into it, you should ditch your propably usual nfs/gta/mafia style of mapping.
Map the car body as much in one piece as possible onto a 1024 sheet and bake the mesh as a base. Then start painting some detail into it.

Another point that intrests me is a wireframe view of the mesh and the triangle count. (I hope you didn't spend all 5000 polygons on the exterior like this.)

I'm sorry for these hard words, but it's all the same for your usual models. They're good, modelling wise, but totally lack in the textures-department.

Welcome onboard mate
Lovely Pugs, the one with stripes is my favorite (club racing look fits the 205 really nice).
Can't wait for interior.

Re: Low-poly Car Contest: Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6

thx for all comments

well it's 3000polys now

and screwdriver: i don't care what you say i want to have fun with modeling and this was the only style of mapping that i can do for keeping my poly count 'low' :x

as if your modeling is perfect

my mafia mapping cars are way different mapped and i don't care about what you said i can't bake textures this is just a 'fake baked tex' the only way i could make 'the fake' baking was this
:x
btw i'm returning my car from the contest thx to you :'( i though it was 'good' in my eyes but hey you can't have everything also i think i know why they call you screwdriver  because you get 'screwed' by a stupid garbage truck driver
so **** off you stupid screw driver

Hmm I don't think Screwdriver was cocky there He just said his opinion and I think you KVH shouldn't get mad about it and drop out of the contest. Please carry on, as he said he doesn't want to spoil the fun of it For me and to many other people they look good and ingame they would look more better actually.

hey, although i always love the high poly cars,i like those cars.Mmm they look so sweet to me.I liked to use those cars in our game project.I am perfectionist on modelling and texturing, but i think there is no need to catch the perfect one, while u got the one the u like.So here is what i mean;these cars look really good to me,and i just respect someone else's opinions, but i dont agree......

Re: Low-poly Car Contest: Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 not in the contest anymore thx to.

Oh my god what have I done?
I did say that I was sorry for that I was beeing a rough, rude jerk, ripping it all apart, didn't I.
But I did not say that you should retract from the contest. In fact if it was my fault that you retreated, so if you don't reconsider, I'll have to retreat, too. For fairness sake. So please calm down and please reconsider!

And hell my modelliing in nowhere near perfect, how the heck should it be? I'm still practicing after all. Like look at the Jaguar, It suffers from it's low-polyness. In fact it is out of scale and has texturing problems. For some reason I can't get the light to look right by just vector-painting them in, they also lack depth. Which means that I will have to redo them. Over and over again until they are somewhere near right-ish or until time runs out.

Now another point is that by telling you that you could do things better, I'm trying to encourage you to evolve. In case you happen to watch the british Top Gear show, you might have already cought that bit, but Jeremy Clarcson said that pretty well:
>> If poeple, back in stone age, didn't step out of their caves wondering: "Hey what's in that next valley", but would kept sitting in there thinking: "Yeah, it's quite comfy in there, I like it", there'd be no such things as cars and computers and we'd still be wearing fur. <<

I think this hits it pretty well and this is what a competition is all about: to envolve, to grow and to learn in order to maybe be the winner. Not about beeing confirmed and comforted.

So please take that cirtique like a man. (You are a man, aren't you?)
Plus if you don't like anything about how I presented you my cricism, please don't hesitate to tell me why.

So please for reconsider.

Re: Low-poly Car Contest: Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 not in the contest anymore thx to...

why?

well i spend like 8hours just to get this 'kind' of textures 'this good'

i can't do real baked tex so i tryed this this faked?ones....

your car is perfect for a lowpoly and the baking is godless nevermind......
this is my first 'skinned car' and i'm only using paint on the moment and photoshop for the camo....(just a tool) but i know that on somethings it can be much better but nevertheless i think i've done a good job otherwise i wouldn't be considering entering the contest...

but thx to you 'rude' comment i realised i'm as **** for textures and the only way to clear this is to leave the low poly contest and get back on modleing 'high' poly game models because there your don't need tex.... cause i suck at doing them you say

you have to believe me if i map i map like 1day at one car...... but only for getting it perfect.. i know that a baked looks better in zmod, renders, games... but some games create there one 'baked' effects... like mafia, WR, WR2, GTA SA (if you know the materials setting in those games you can't see a different..)

but you have right to cope along in the competition cause you are doing well and no 'faked' 'baked' tex... you don't must retreat only me cause i'm really not in a adult stage right now because i'm pissed i worked my ass of for this result.... you have to give me right to retreat out the comp there's only one person who can convince me and he is NE or Nighteye he's my best friend on modellng buseniss..(lol can't spell it)
i'm really down on the moment of modeling... i have little faith in myself and you destroyed it in that post

i'm not angry at you anymore but more in your post... so we can stay 'friends' but i won't be forgetting this quickly...

ok bye.........cya in 1week or so when i take my final desision about modeling and this contest

have to think

Re: Low-poly Car Contest: Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6 not in the contest anymore thx to.

What can I say. Well atleast this that I'm not either good making textures and I still am in the contest. Some gave me critic that textures in my Volvo 850 are bad and I didn't take it hard. I just must take them as a advise and try to make them better. KVH your textures are definitely good ones like I said earlier and they will definitely look even better ingame.

I must say this also and hope you don't get mad to me also. But you really have to take critic better than this. Yes you've worked 8h but still someone might say they don't look good and needs something. Quitting the contest is not the answer

Just don't mind about that critic KVH ...

Some people give some critic about work (they're right or completely wrong) but just read it and don't react on it (but sometimes keep it in mind)

My opinion is that you do hell a lot of great work, and these models are looking good for me :!: It's meant to be low-poly and that's what your fine result is

And just don't stop modelling because you're very great (in case you didn't knew it already ) I still have to start modelling ... (I already say this for a 2 years :x)
