Project #2 1970 Low Poly Challenger

I needed a break from my 59 olds, so I decided to take on one of my favorite cars, the Dodge Challenger.* I needed somethign with not as many crazy lines, but would still give me a little of a challenge.* This is my first attempt at the Dodge.* Im still learning how to setup the cars (place vertexes for smooth transitions in low poly).* This seemed to go a bit smoother than my Olds project.* It is a start, but have some questions.* The rear roofline needs some help.* Im not a 100% sure how to round the rear pillar, into the back window.* *I really couldnt see the lines that well so I took 5 mins to map it, and make a quick template, to get a better idea of what it would look like, not flat blue.* No smoother here, finally figured how to turn that off... * Any suggestios?

Re: Project #2 1970 Low Poly Challenger

lol thats what happens when you map in about 2 mins. I just wanted some color real quick, Im sure their is an easier way, but need to learn the hard way sometimes I guess... I have never really mapped anything this complex before. A few buildings, a windtunnel, but nothing like this. It will take some time to get used to. I hope to have a new screen shot today. Spent a good amount of time last night on it, and hope to start mapping tonight. Is there any big ancient chinese secret to mapping?

Re: Project #2 1970 Low Poly Challenger

Thanks a ton for the tutorial.* I have seen it before, long time ago, but could not remember where I found it.* I must have just looked right over it in the tuts section.* It dont get much better than that one.* After a couple hours of work last night, here is where Im at now.* Still some work to do, and hope to start mapping it tonight.

Now, 3d max peeps, anyone have a problem in perspective view, where it stops zooming? Have had it happen twice now, I would be zooming in and it would stop. Can move the car left right, but cant zoom in and out. Switch views, go back, then the car is not in per view anymore. Any ideas? :?

Try pressing Z in the view. That should work

Btw could you show some wires?

Re: Project #2 1970 Low Poly Challenger

Maybe when the problem happens again, I will hit Z. Went in to a file that had the problem, and just seemed like it zoomed out, not reset to normal persp view. Got me... Here is a wire... A little more work, and this will work fine for the game.

Was thinking about this, do you mean, do not use convert to mesh? But, convert to poly?

That is what he meant i think. But if you're gonna export it to game remember to convert it to the editable mesh then. That's because games don't necessarily understand editable polies

Re: Project #2 1970 Low Poly Challenger

Ok, no one told me mapping was going to be this much fun!* Here is a screen, was a map and shrink to a little square.* Few wrong clicks and 30 mins of work all for nothing... lol* Got to learn the hard way sometimes I guess.* I will try edit poly next time, Im guessing thast why my print screen shots tend to look different that other peoples on here.* I have lines fairly even, but went into some poly saving mode.* I was about 500 or so polys higher than I needed to be, so started condensing the flat areas.* This is for ingame, so doesnt have to be god awful perfect.* Its going to get dented anyways!* I have a bad feeling, Im going to have a weekend of nothing but mapping...

Re: Project #2 1970 Low Poly Challenger

I have been working on a couple dif cars. Going back and forth as I learn a little trick here and there, trying to improve all 3 cars Ive been working on. Since I just couldnt map my first Challenger when I started it as a mesh, I started over in poly mode and went from there. I look back at my old one, and see some stuff I still need to do, but so far so good. Almost ready to map this one.

Re: Project #2 1970 Low Poly Challenger

you can save much polies on the roof, hood and the back part, and then spend it on nice rims and interior
