Opel Manta B [learning]

Hi,
This is my second car model ever, a Manta B. Modeled most of it in 3D Max.

Polygon grid:

Flat shading mode in Zmodeler v1.07b.

Crit pls, may be seriously off from what I know.
Perhaps this is going to be game model, perhaps not.

Oh, and those double fuel tanks aren't a flaw, it's just that I showed two identical halves of the body, so don't crit on that part pls.

I think this one looks really good! I only dislike the seams, they are way too plain-black and thick.

Thank you, for the seams do you mean lines between body parts? If so, they won't look this way after texture is added.

Thanks! For the seams I will remodel them later, they may turn 3d.
The seems appeared to be way messed up, somewhere they are too stick, somewhere too narrow, have to fix that so.

Here is a front bumper:

And the real one:

you can try a texture for the seams! You don't have to change the model you just have to make a small texture of a doorline and then you must map the doorline faces (the ones that are now black) so you can see the doorline-texture on the doorlines. It will look much realler than the current bodylines.

Very nice modelling, but as stated the bodylines let you down.

If you're going to texture them in you might as well not have modelled the lines there at all.

Keep up the great work for a second car though. I like it. Great taste in cars too

I might try this way, mostly because I am way too lazy to redo the whole seams. I may take a close-up photo of the seam, photoshop it and apply to the model, let's see what happens.

Well I should not model them as they are but since I've already did there's a reason for trying to texture them the way superwes88 mentioned above. Hope that helps, if not I will redo the whole seams.

Thanks for the comments folks!

Here I've modeled a rim, but there are no tyres or textures yet. Also the rear end was slightly changed, because tail lights appeared to be wrong. Rear bumper and side skirt added as well, but they may change.

I want to use it for games if that's possible, thinking about CrashDay particularly after seeing a topic about Simca 1200 for that game. But at first I need to finish it of course, which takes time.

Car seems perfect for Crashday, I can already see this one ingame
And if you are thinking about Crashday: the developers do officially recommend using textures for the seams instead of modelling them, so might wanna try that way.
And are you going to do some extreme tuning kits like that movie, "Manta Manta" ? (just for fun )

I've got the game, but those default cars seem somehow low poly, perhaps I will have to reduce the polygon count. If this is impossible, I will just model another car. As for "Manta Manta" version, I don't think this is possible due to blueprint absense.

In any case, I am really short of time at the moment. Updates most probably will not come up before the end of the month.

Thanks for the comments folks.

Game's default cars are 6-8000 polygons, but the interiors are only detailed around the dash view, and undersides are textured planes.
But I've got a 14000 polygon car in the game, and it doesn't decrease performance

And you could always model the Manta Manta from reference pics, doesn't have to be 100% correct, no ? Anyway, it was just a thought

Talking

I had to spent some precious time passing exams in university, but, anyway, back to business now. The car now has textures and normals, however some important details are still missing. Those nasty doorseams now have a texture on them, hope that helped. More 2 come.
