Lamborghini Countach LP5000 Concept

This thread started out as a progress thread for some experiments for the Extra-Lowpoly Contest. However, due to lack of time, I could'nt even finish the first experiment. But I will finish it as soon as I have some time.

So... I've been trying out some modelling for the Extra Lowpoly Contest. Just to try to get a feel for these limits I thought I'd start with a Lamborghini Countach. This will NOT be my final entry!

This is what I came up with, it's the Lamborghini Countach LP5000 Concept:

This is around 1550 polygons. I tried out something different for the wheelarches. I got the inspiration for this whenI played GT4.

The wheelarches are done with an opacity map, making for smooth arches with few polies.

Texturing is in progress.

So... commemts?

I think you captured the Countach shape very well with this few polies! Will you be texturing this further, too? If so, I can't wait
Bloody marvellous

Thanks

Yep, I'll texture it further. Shouldn't be all that much work on this one, considering the car is rather simple

great idea with the wheel arches but actually i think a really lowpoly edgy car needs lowpoly edgy wheelarches since it's such a hard contrast between smooth round an hard edges. but this is just my oppinion.

A real lowpoly car should have as smooth edges as possible, with as few polies. And that's exactly what he did

not to beat a dead horse, but if you're gonna go with the opacity map technique, be extra-sure to delete any polies that exist where there's nothing but completely transparent mapping. You've got some areas within the wheel wells where the polys there serve no purpose (that I can see)

Yes, multimediaman, you're right. There are some polies in the transparent areas that are not needed. I'll delete them.

However, I'm relly short on time at the moment and I don't know if I will have time to finish a new car for the contest as I originally planned. This may have to be my final entry if I can't find more time. I'm not really comfortable with that, as I feel that this car is too easily modelled to enter it in the contest. :/
