Toyota 1985 4Runner

Well, this is my first project at smcars. In fact it is my very first vehicle to model in 3d. I am a total noob.

I will be making my truck, a 1985 Toyota 4Runner SR5.
Wish me luck and help me along the way.

For some reason, blueprints don't exsist on the internet of a first gen 4runner, so I will be making them myself. Here is the progress I have so far.

After taking about 60 pics of my truck using the method multimediaman described in his request thread, I came up with these compilation pics.

Then I went into illustrator for like 8 hours and have this so far.

And that is where I stand at the moment.
What do you think?
Tell me if I'm doin something wrong so I can learn...

Well last week I tried to model the truck using this box modeling tut.
http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthre...0&page=1&pp=15

Needless to say with my lack of skill in the modeling department, I was unsuccessful after 3 long attempts to transform his round car into my blocky truck.

I need to get at least a good rough model to turn in for school(May 11).

What is the easiest(NOOB!) method for modeling a boxy truck.
Thanks for your time.

I would look in the tutorial section, they have some real good ones in there.
Have a look at REDSTARS tutorial, that will help a lot.

I'm just a beginner, but I wouldn't have made the doors seperatly, but modelled them together with the body, and add the creases afterwards.

Other than that, great work for a first I'd say

Just curious, how come?

It seems strait forward enough. Do you think I will really have that much trouble getting them to fit?

Won't be too much trouble. You can simply copy the outer vertices, and make the door from that.

The wire looks really clean! You just gotto work on your seams, they look a bit roundish. Nice work!

Indeed, I guess it's not too much trouble to create them afterwards. I'd just think you can be more sure the shape of the door is just right.

After some work, after I got off work.

I haven't really started working with the smoothing yet, just trying to get the geometry down. So I know that some edges need work. I am really having a blast so far.

For when I get to it... is there an efficient way to control how hard an edge is when smoothing other than adding geometry using chamfer? Thanks in advance.

Looks mighty fine. Makes me wanna try multimediamans method for blueprints. Anyway modeling looks clean so far and the car itself rocks!
