Radical SR4 1st car attempt (C4D)

Hi guys I'm new here and new to this so be gentle on me

Im trying to make a low poly model for rFactor (game)

Can you guys give me C & C on where to focus and what to change.

Im having a hard time keeping the mesh on the sides clean.

Pete

You should focus on accuracy and smoothing the most. If this is going to be a game model you will have to use smoothing groups. If it's going to be a rendering model, then you have to work on your chamfers (I think C4D calles them bevels?) so edges get sharp when applying meshsmooth.
On accuracy, it didn't take long before I noticed the headlight is really off. But that's an easy fix though.
I think you're doing pretty okay, especially for your first model!

Good luck with the rest, and enjoy your stay at the forums

I LOVE THIS CAR!!!

1st model... damn its preety good i would say. You might want to inform us if this is going to be a lowpoly game model or highpoly smoothed model so we can help out with your wireframe on the sides... like you asked.

Main thing is you got basic body done... start to work on individual places... start to refine the mesh so that is starts to look more accurate and like the real car.

You could try and repair it, but sometimes just rebuilding that has more use
That way you have a new chance to do it properly, instead of having a (perhaps bad) base to begin with. You'll learn from rebuilding things too, I think a lot more than from repairing spots.
It's up to you, but I suggest to rebuild that part

well if this is going to be a low-poly job you could just use as many tris as you want. so sticking to quads isn't a must.

this is a really good job for your first car. just check your poly placement on the rear fin. it looks really messy :\

Deleted loads of poly's and started over with nose and section, side pods next, rear im pretty happy about so far.

Here are some wire renders to show what I've done.

I loving all the positive reply's here. Before I was just 2D "artist" now I'm getting the 3d dimension

ps the stuff at side and bottom is a bottom for the car I made and forgot to turn of with rendering...looks kinda funny..

well without trying to sound too harsh i have to say that your model is way too highpoly in the front. you can go with at least half the polies or even a third of what you got. and probably get a similar result. i assume rFactor has to display 10-15 or even 20 cars at one time and when you got such a detailed (or let's say poly-heavy) front that is probably just too much for the engine of the game to handle.

especially since the front is very flat you won't need that many polies in that area. you should concentrate on getting the general shape of the car. and maybe add more polies to the wheel arches or other round objects on your car.

for example right now, imo your wheel arch is too flat and the front is too much sloped. but i can't judge much from those bad quality images you posted for reference.

anyway i don't want to get you down with my post, just keep working on your model and i hope you will have a lot of fun with it

Yeah you're right S][M, and I made a quick example for you
Red = weld together
Green = new polyplacement

But nontheless, you can't deny he did a nice job improving it

yeh i head where ya are coming from np.
Ill try to optimize new front, but i wanted to get the good shape in.
As for pics of referance...NONE just those...makes is rather hard...
No worries, im not making car for mod or anyting..if i can get it to run just for me ill be happy.

You mean i need to cut down on the horizontal lines in the nose mesh right?
Maybe you can paint me just a few points I need to de poly..
Tnx.

Allright, perhaps this shows it properly
Your horizontal lines are fine because this is a rather smooth car
