Thanks again for all the replies - your posts are certainly making me want to see this through to the end.

pim.: It's actually quite funny - the reason I started this model was to have a place to display the wheel and rims I had modelled (all modern alloys) However, since starting, I think I want to go for the 'authentic' Golf look and might do some different rims for it. What I don't want to do is 'tune' the car and have bling bling rims Once I have some shaded renders, maybe you could advise me on which model it's best suited to, and what details should be added....

Vadson,

As mentioned in the original post, I'm not aiming to be 100% perfect - if someone can look at it and say "It's a Golf", it's good enough for me. The wire is also unfortunately very messy in places, and not easy to tweak - I'm sure this is something that will be remedied with experience and future models.

Since this is my first poly car, I am trying to learn the tools rather that create an exact replica, as it's only for personal use.

I would like to try and make you happy though Do you mean the angle where the grille meets the side fender, or the angle between the bonnet (hood) and the bumper?

Well, here's the wire - I'm actually embarrassed to post it though because it's so messy... Keeping it clean is something I'm learning as I go along (the whole point of this exercise)

I guess it's the end result that counts though

Some of the lines running along the roof can probably be removed and left to meshsmooth. Other than that and your general clean up as you say, I'd call it a pretty accurate model.

lol you call that a messy mesh? looks pretty clean to me. the only issue is that you got quite a few tri's here and there and a lot of poly wasteage on the roof. but those are minor issues i guess.
