Plymouth 1968 Barracuda

Howdy people

This is going to be a quick one i hope, urgent commission. A fine design that owes a lot to GM: the rakish slant of the roof a la Impala 58, the grille a la Pontiac, the "Coke bottle" waist, but nevertheless a very "authoral" design, better than what the Cuda was previously and far better imo than the bloated Cuda from the 70s. Stock version first...
Progress so far:

i dono, im not a fan of the pontiac style grill. i never really have liked their designs for grills, except on that new solstice. the grill on the 71 looks badass! was the 68 more of a pony car like the mustang?

the models looking good, im sure once youre up to spending an hour on it youll almost be done

nice work palat. that car has an interesting design, but the rear end looks weird, probably because the trunk is too long :?

well i guess me eye spots some pinching

sarN,
It was definitely a pony car, a Mustang by Chrysler Corp. I love its Italian looks, which proves that Chrysler still followed former Styling President Exner's guidelines in 1967. Exner was a staunch fan of Italian design, and had a handful of concepts done by Ghia (one of them is still in the cargo hold of the ocean liner "Andrea Doria" that sunk off New York).

FlashG,
Thanks!

NightEye,
Please don't ban me as i still have a lot to learn from you pros!

Silent][Moebius,
The long hood/short deck is a classic layout, either to be loved or hated (personally i think it looks very nice on sporty designs). As for the pinching it's because the openings make a sharp corner that blends with the side. I hope to have it corrected now.

Final updates with drag wheels and a big hood intake as requested by the client. I plan to get back to this model and complete the 100% stock version.

looks great,
all it needs now are some wider rear tires and that would be one killer pro street ride

great work!

If you can turn, your not going FAST enough

wouldn't you preferrably use slicks? :?

but the ride looks really evil with that monstrous air intake on the hood

nice! without the whitewalls tho those tires look like off road lol. theres a small space on that corner where that front piece (that has the grill embedded in it) meets the hood and front quarterpanel. Could be like that though because I know on the GTX it has a small thing like that which looks like an imperfection but is really how the car was built. any more colors?

Thanks again folks!

Well i lowered the front and increased the rear tires after your comments. And tweaked that corner as pointed. Now that i have collapsed the mesh to cut out the gas filler hole everything must be done twice :grrr:
Yes and it does need slicks in the back...
Hope FlashG can see it. (-:

Hey man, this is looking great!!! I'm still struggling with you working on a modified car though - I bet you were gritting your teeth when that hood scoop went on
Looking forward to seeing the stock version too, we all know it will be beautiful

Thanks FlashG!

garethgeezer,
so i was, chap, so i was. But you see, we must be willing to accept all sorts of challenges...

I had to drag it further, here's the result, wheelies and slicks.

A little bumpy where the sharp edge on the skirts ends.
Looking hot though, I love it!
