MB CLS 500

I am planning to make a model of this beautiful car. Hopefully I actually finish it. Some quick questions though. It's been a while since I used 3ds Max and I have this problem with my blueprints. First, I am following the Audi A3 Tutorial and when I make my planes with the bluerints the actual blueprint is very small. Can I make the blueprints bigger in Photoshop without loosing quality? Second, when the blueprints are on the planes I have a Diagonal line across my plane. From what I remember from the past I think it had something to do with a video setting. If not please tell me how to fix it. Once these questions are answered I hope to start posting my work. Forgive me for not having anything to show right now, but just wanted to get these issues out of the way. Thanks.

You will always lose quality when scaling as far as I know it's just lesser in photoshop if you are skilled in photoshop as it autosmooths and the line is due to edged faces being on i think. now go do your project!

Here is the progress that I have so far. Not much to comment on yet. I am following the Audi A3 tut so it's just a rough shape at this point. If you want to comment on anything please do so.

This is not Box Modeling, I started with a single poly then created a rough shape. Like I stated earlier I am following the Audi A3 Video tutorial and in that tutorial he has you start with a very rough shape then little by little you start detailing.

Sorry if this is off topic but..
The A3 tutorial isnt box modeling is it? correct me if im wrong but box modelling is when you get a box and pull it out the the shape of the car, but in the A3 tut he does a basic shape of the car and then goes into detail instead of focusing on one area and moving onto the next part when you have fully completed and are happy with that area...

EDIT: whoops.. billyfx beat me 2 it

you're technically correct, the a3 tut isn't box modelling. however, the tutorial starts by roughing out a very basic shape and then adding polies for detail. Hence, it resembles box modelling in many respects even though it technically isn't box modelling.

rodder

well forget hte polys rite now its begging for surface! it has serious issues with the surfaces if not corrected now will coz serious problems later! the sharp line features that run below the side windows just above the door handels need serious work has huge dent! so does the back!

i understand this may be ur first car and my critiques may be a bit harsh but, in order to make a good start u'll need to check more on refrences too!

this is why he needs to add some polies, to get him the correct shape, with not enough polies, he may not have the correct surface

Don't worry Rapheal9. If a person can't take crit then they shouldn't post. I appreciate any crit. This will help improve my modeling skills. What dent are you refering too?? I have not made the arc that runs the whole side of the car yet. Regarding the back I know that one needs work, I'm kind of stuck on some parts. the "dips" or whatever they're called that run down the hood, Do I have to champher those lines.
