Lexus IS200/IS300

Greetings friends...

Ok so here's the story of this car. I'm obviously still quite new to modelling and it's about the fourth car i have attempted to model. I find myself getting constantly frustrated and giving up with cars (I usually struggle with the doors for some reason)

Anyway...That's exactly what happened with this car, so i took a breather for a few days and got stuck into it again.

The pics you see below are from me in the middle of tidying up my wire etc. The front bumper is a mess, which i will probably end up just re-making altogether.

I am definatly finishing this car. I am going to take it slow, getting each bit right before i move on. (once ive finished tidying what you see here.

I have no real idea how to go about modelling "tech" headlights, which most modern cars have. I've made the outer casing, and put some placeholder tubes in there, but how do you guys make those slick reflective inner casings?

At a guess id suspect it involves a boolean, but i'm really not sure? Anyone got a link for a good tute?

100% brutal C&C welcome on this and any of my other threads. You cannot offend me, please rip this to shreds, i want to learn from you guys!

Thanks for the comments!

I'm not too hot with rendering just yet, the dark renders were not an intentional thing. ATM i'm just using global illumination with raytrace lighting IIRC.

This weekend i plan to get V ray and spend some time experimenting and reading up on it to produce nice materials, including better clay.

I'm going to retry the bumper and hood/fender seam tonight so i will update then!

well done so far, looks good.
make sure you check those pinches on the bumper. its probably caused because of 5 sided polies which can come about after camfering.
Good luk with the rest

Thanks for all the kind replies! Although this time i'm expecting the mood to change lol.

@Plague - If this model turns out anything like your IS, i will be VERY VERY happy about it!

Bit of a step back in that i just deleted the front bumper, but a definate move on with the body. I decided to leave the bumper and move on with other areas. Once the car comes together i'll have more motivation to work on the bits that are frustratingme!

I'm moderatly happy with how its going, although i don't like the crease along the doors :x

In addition i still have no real idea on how to model nice headlight casings, i guess i'll just have to learn from trial and error and practice!

Finall, i'm at an akward part of the model. AS you can see the roof is modelled, and i've extended along to the back doors/arches. At this point these meshes must join, although i'm a bit unsure of how to do it effectivly!

Any help as to how the mesh should progress would be greatly appreciated.

These renders also feature remand bonnet seams which im far happier with as well as various other tidying of the mesh i first posted.

Again brutal feedback please!

there's your main problem, the part where the roof comes down to the rear fender is just like one row of polys.. and therefore makes things complicated... and flat.. what i'd do is cut it so you have 2 or 3, i think 3 sounds about right, rows of polies, check out the image i attached

try to do like the blue lines i drew

OK update. As you can tell i work very very slowly, as i'm still learning etc etc, but i'm getting more comfortable in 3ds max now, I find im picking up the pace a bit, finding tools i like touse to get the results i want etc.

Just 1 pic for now to give you an idea of where i am with this.

That's another attempt at a front bumper, i'm still not nearly happy with it.

There are a few bumps etc i know about, but please put this down in anyway possible, i'm here to learn remember.

Excuse the dodgy material too, i was just playing around with that lol.
