LEGO 5590

That trend kinda died here, but I have to make a Lego car for a school assignment, so i picked something a little bit more ambitious than you're supposed to. Right now i'm at step 13 of 20, with 173837 polygons.
Spill it, guys!

edit: oops, it's supposed to be the bottom one on this manual when finished: http://markl.hyperrealm.com/lego/5590-large.jpg

You are crazy lol.

Looks fantasic so far, so much detail.

Out of interest, when making lego would you set up the snap to grid settings in max for actually compiling it (after you have built each piece needed of course)?

Or is the whole thing done by eye?

However it is done, its real impressive 8o

Thanks guys! It will definitely be finished, as it is due for school in 3 weeks (i'm gonna be done sooo much earlier lol). That's also why i'm putting so much detail into it: gotta prove my skills this time, as previous assignents I kinda held back.

As for how I work: first I model a brick seperately, with max set to cm units, that way I have the brick in question next to me in rea life, so I can measure every detail. After it's done, I merge it with my full model, which is set to a grid of 8 cm (I work with everything factor 10 compared to real life, teacher told us to), that way my X & Y movements are all snapped correctly.
And yes, scene is dark, not much attention to lighting and such, as were not allowed to use it for this assignment, so I'll have to remove all lighting settings at the end.

so in the end you'll have to do a clay render? or are you allowed to use proper materials?

We can change colors (through the default viewport colors, but I asked if i could do that through materials, which was okay), but no reflection, refraction, opacity or anything.

It's almost done now, just wheels and two kinds of lights are not done yet. I'll look at lighting and so when it's finished, as they just taught us 3 point lighting yesterday, which was all new to me.
