Looking great. Very smooth. Are you going to model a trailer?
By the way, are you on a truck trip? I'd love to see some cars from you :-) ![]() "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere." Here's an update. I don't have too much time for this, so it progressing very slowly.
All the parts like spings and axles are correct in their basic shape but are not especially detailed, as on the final render they would *always be in the shadow*, and are also likely to be at least partly obscured by other objects. However, there's also a chance that they will be seen from certain angles. Thus I had to model them. Modelling these parts with full detalization would requare equaly the amount of time and effort needed to model the truck itself. So I don't consider this as an option. |

Thanks to everyone for nice comments!
That's just the first render of the more or less complete model. I have noticed a few things that need to be changed. There's a feeling the truck has no weight - the front suspension has to be adjusted. Which in turn means some adjustments to other parts of the model, but this is still feasable. Also, I dislike the front bumper - it obscures the badge at the bottom of the radiator and, although made according to blueprints, it looks too narrow. It can be lowered, but then the mounts have to be of different design. Perhaps, a more attractive alternative could be a curved bumper. But I'm not sure if that type of bumper was used on heavy duty trucks: some research needs to be done ![]() Another major thing is the color scheme: don't like it. Suggestions are welcome. I like the color scheme, maybe a darker environment can give it contrast.
As for color schemes you might play with various oil companies' liveries. Texaco would look good all-red with black fenders, Shell all-yellow (Shell official yellow is 100Y 15M) with red fenders and so on. Of course the logos would have to be vintage too, not the present versions, so another research would be needed on this subject too. (: If only more modelers would invest/practice their skills on automotive history... |

Here are some more test renders. I have changed the model by lowering the front leaf springs and tilting the truck forward. And in fact, it should be like that according to the truck specifications.
I've also repositioned the bumper. I might still use a curved bumper: proof found that these were used on heavy trucks. Dan, thank you for the comments. The tank-trailer model was in fact from Shell (it had another tractor: White COE), so it could be tried. My only concern is that I have not found a picture of a White conventional tractor with a tank-trailer of that design in any of the oil companies' colors. Thus there's a chance that Shell never used White conventionals. I've seen pictures of White conventionals with i.e Esso tank-trailer, but these were of a different types ... ![]() So historical truth may suffer (well... who cares?) There's another possibility here: to look for old magazine ads from White. They used fictional companies to advertise the trucks. One was called "MorOil" : orange with black fenders. In another ad they had a tanker in the color scheme similar to the one used in my latest renders, it was a milk truck though. |

Really Good model!
Superb if placed in a scene with a '40/'50 car ![]() Alan Guerzoni: 3d car modeler & GranTurismo photographer Visit my website My wip: 1970 Ferrari 512s "coda lunga" (longtail) |
