WIP - 1978 Brabham BT-46B 'Fan Car' (F1)

Just thought I'd show something I've been working on to get some crits - there's still lots of modelling to do, mesh errors and loads of details in some places and bare in others. The mirrors are toast, too but it's getting there. It's high-poly. Apologies for the grainy renders...

Brabham's seriously wacky Fan Car...

Sweet work, the car looks great, goto love that clay type look in renders. Really shows the shading or as my art appreciation teacher says curiscuro. Great work so far, its indeed very detailed

excellent !

love those older F1 cars .. and this one has alot of "new ideas" ... whats the story ? I remember reading somewhere that the FIA ruled it out after just one race or something ?

Chiaroscuro...I'll have to remember that one...

Bjolletts - The car was deemed legal by scrutineers and was 'banned' by the FIA (it considered the fan to be a moving aerodynamic device, outlawed earlier in the decade). Although Brabham insisted that the fan was for cooling, not strictly untrue because the fan sucked air through the horizontally-mounted radiators on the top, team leader Bernie Ecclestone decided to withdraw it after it totally dominated the Swedish GP in '78 because of the turbulence between FOCA and the FIA. The other teams were concerned about the debris picked up off the track and thrown out the back and the habit of the fan blades to disintegrate. The fan was so effective at sucking the car to the ground that it would squat when the throttle was blipped...while stationary...(!)

More renders to come, working on texturing...

Thanks for the F1 story lesson... Great work and I am looking forward to see it finished.

I appreciate a lot your infos, so I give to you the mine:
Chiaroscuro --> it is an artistic drawing technical word, and it indicates a particular effect you give to your drawing using ONLY the pencil, that would be 3B or 4B (pencil classification sistem, based on the "hardness". They are scaled from the hardest-9H to the softest-9B. The 'H' stands for hardness, the 'B' stands for blackness, and HB, in the middle, is for hard and black pencils). Normally the HB is used for the sketches (it's easier to delete its signs) and the 2B is used for the shadows.

Sorry if I bored you ops: .

dppd69 - you didn't bore at all, mate. I'm familiar with sketching pencils - I spent many years at college back in the UK brushing flakes of 6B's off my work and smearing them beyond recognition hock: although I can't say I've seen that grading system here in the US so far.

Anyway - here's an update, just a texture and reflection test. Still haven't replaced the mirrors.

It needs only a racetrack now...

Great work, I didn't know that the engine was AlfaRomeo.

Cheers Dario

This is probably about done. There's a couple of textures need finishing on the fan and it needs a few finishing touches to the cockpit. I'll post whenever I get to them.

Thumbs up Brabham BT46B

Hello All

This is my first post on this forum.

I have discovered it by searching on websites containing items on the BT46B fan car.

This work that you have done is first rate on this model
One question I have is where did you get the info from to draw this model or did you use photographs.
I use Autodesk Inventor in my day job and I know what's needed to get images like you have here.

Regards

Martin
