Hi,I've been using Max so far but I got XSI about a week ago and after some basic models that i did just to get used to the interface and to adjust to the new app i decided to make this car.

Mighty clean and mighty dense mesh, bayvan! Can't crit on accuracy, but it looks really smooth.

May I ask which variant of xsi you're using and how it compares to max in your opinion?

@Mondlicht29: your R8 looks also nice, but you should make your own thread to show it off

@Linsen: I use XSI 5.11. I've been using it at home for just 2 weeks so i cant't give opinion on the whole app but so far i like it. The poly modeling is very good, the interface and the workflow is very nice. It's quite different then MAX but i was surprised how fast i was able to get used to it. I haven't been doing any renders so far and that is gonna be tough becous the way it works in XSI is very different. I don't have problem with setting up Mentalray but with the creation of the materials. I did a very simple animation and it was fine. Overall i think i'll use XSI for my personal work from now on and at work i'll have to use MAX. Another very important think for the the 2 weeks i haven't had a single crash it's very stable.

Best Regards,
bayvan

Thx a lot for the info bayvan. One more question: Are you using foundation, essentials or advanced? (Foundation seems really attractive as it's amazingly cheap compared to other tools and it seems to have most of the features one would need/want for car modeling.)

And just in case you haven't seen it (although you probably have): There's a thread at cg-talk devoted to mental ray shaders in xsi. See here. They have a similar one for max, but if I understand it correctly that's not of much help for xsi-users.

@Linsen: You're right i'm using XSI Foundation. And it's more than enough in my opinion but not only for car modeling. It's an exelent pakage. Thank you for the info about the shaders.

Update:

Best Regards,
bayvan
