Lem ! you rock

Excellent model and render of an excellent car .. you can really see what lines (the front especially) that inspired them for the Z8.

Is the tyre material a map or procedural ?? thinking about the side of the tyre .. cause it looks great

Thx,
the tire material is a photo. Its not 100% visible in the difuse slot, so it blends with the generic rubber material.

Problem with that approach is the light info in the photo texture, so its not very useful method if you plan to animate the wheel.

Madison: Lighting setup is my weak point too, but with GI ...

I use the splutterfish (brasil) hdri plugin. The hdri i used here is russtorferstrasse.hdr . i got it from a hdri page i dont remember now.

problem with vray free is that no matte/shadow isnt functioning (no gi shadows). next thing is you cant safe te irridiance map and calculating it with glas in the szene is very very time consuming so i rendered it in 3 passes. 1 with soft shadows with a cast shadows only material, 1 without the glass (vray gi rendering) and the last one is the glas only. Then i combined all in paintshop pro.

for hdri lighting i would suggest to read the tutorials. normally i use a soft shadow light additionally, but only with a small multiplyer. (its mainly only for the shadows)
for the amount of light the hdri produces adjust the output parameters in the hdri material and not the value in the enviroment render dialog.

Icekid: I think i will do a Borgward Isabella Coupe next, then maybe an italian cabrio from the 60ies. Maybe alfa spider or a maserati. must be something which doesnt exist yet as 3d model.

max3 szene including a basic hdri setup

you will notice a deactivated light in the szene. its there because max would use 2 default lights to light the syene if no light is present.
