Project Skate

I recently put aside some of my other projects like my Gallardo and WRX Sti because I had to do a project for school and portfolios and crap, but here is another project I started and WILL be finishing along with a biped animation then an animation of myself modelled with the board. Tell me what you guys think of the project so far. I'm going for detail here so the bearings and screws are in here too haha.

I'm glad you like the board, but the graphic stays. It's the board I own and Williams owns so haha. Billabong, Zero and Birdhouse are cheap brands as well.

Love that grip tape, just need the hole for the bolts. Looks like a nice mellow deck to ride. Looking forward to seeing the trucks and bearings being complete.

Looks nice, and different from the usual car we're used to seeing. What do you plan on doing with this other than modeling the skateboard?

Nice attention to detail with the modeling although I think the textues on the bottom of the board should be improved. Also the 'griptape' as they call it I guess, could also use some better texturing for realism.

So far so good though.

Model is simple, but it does the job.

I really like the materials, especially the metal of the screws. The grip is really good but just a bit too light.

The texture used for wheels side needs to be higher resolution.

the texture for the skateboard is the best i can make after an hour of messing around with it. help me if you want. the deck graphic texture is low res because I can't find higher res textures anywhere for any deck on the internet. I use CCS and the wheel textures are from the same site and I can't find any higher resolution textures of the wheels. What I tried to do was blur them to make them more smoothed. Any suggestions? And this is an animation project, not just modeling.

The texture on wheels is fine I think.

For the skateboard texture, I know it could be hard to find such a specialized ressource. The main problem is not really the lack of resolution, but the way the upscaling is done. If you didn't already do that, you should try to size up the original texture in a drawing program (like the best known in the world or like Gimp, see GIMP - The GNU Image Manipulation Program)

The result will be more smooth, without aliasing like what you've now.

But as it's for animation, depending on the minimum relative speed the skateboard will have, you can lower the level of requirement.

I don't know how to use GIMP but what I did get from trying to use it was this.

Any better?

It's way better. I still think the grip is a bit too bright, but otherwise, no critic from me.

Edit : is the wheel white material temporary ? If no, you need to work on it I think.

the white material for the wheel is temporary. Kind of like how the wheel looks brand new. When I get the griptape and deck graphic sorted out, I'll work on the yellow tinted, dirty look of the weels with some nice bump maps to make them look worn and some scratches on the deck for grind use.
