Cool Toyota Sprinter

Howdy all,

Last night and the majority of today I have spent modeling this Sprinter. This is my first low-poly car, keeping within the standard Project Gotham Racing 3 tri-counts (25k exterior, 25k interior, 5k per wheel). It's taken me a while to get adjusted to low-poly modeling, but I'm getting there slowly!!

Gathering references has been easy since one of my mates owns this car. I was able to get roughly 60 high-res photos to use for modeling it.

The model still has a long way to go, as you can probably tell, and most edges still need to be smooth off, but I won't be doing this until the end of the modeling process. I know there's some artifacts in the model, and I'll probably be able to figure them out, but any help on letting me know a quick way would be great!! Also, just any general tips for low-poly modeling would also be apreciated guys!!

Peace out,

PGR3 had about 100k per car. Almost everyone in the modelling community has seen the wireframe and poly count of the McLaren F1LM thats modelled for that game. It was something like 50k outside and 50k inside for each car.

XSImatrix, I think you might be mistaken, because these tri-counts that I quoted above are straight from the guys who made the cars for Project Gotham Racing 3...I asked directly ;-)

Like I said, these are the tri-counts from the guys who MADE the cars for Project Gotham Racing 3, not the guys who marketed it...

Now MOVING ON from this THIS particular topic...What do you gusy think of my model so far?? I've had one post to do with the model, and that's from one of the guys that goes to my uni!! I wanna know what others think :-)

It looks great so far, but I am not a fan of the offset of the rims. In my opinion they stick in too much, and are too big. Nice progress.

NVD180...Yeah man, I agree with you for this style of car. I put the rims into the scene just quickly to show what they look like. In the final renders, they will be in a normal position.

I'm aiming this car be fairly realistic, so technically it should be able to turn :-P

Thanks for your interest!!

Cool Updates

Day 3 and I have more updates here chaps...Still a while to go just fixing up the exterior mesh, but the majority of it is now blocked out and in place.

Still trying to get the hang of low-poly modeling though...it is a pain, and it has various impacts on you trying to teach yourself it...especially in the 'sleep' department :-P

Tell me what you think ay!!

The front doesn't curve down near the lights like that.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b2...n/DSCF1082.jpg
For a referance..

Also, rims are WAY to big, whip up some SSR meshies or watanabe's

Edit: I just realised it's a trueno, not a levin.
either way, the front end looks...off, not sure what it is

Edit2:

http://w1.avis.ne.jp/~mat/photo/ae86.jpg

It's your grill, you got a stock Levin grill on with a trueno front end. And the bumper is low, causing it to be a big gap there from what i can see

Klutchylol,

Thanks for your input man, but I'm actually modeling this from reference photos of my mates Sprinter...and it's exactly like my model here. I don't know too much about these cars, but my mate has this grill, and this same front-end on his car. On his car it does actually say 'Levin' on the grill (not modeled in yet).

Onto the rims...I've had a few comments already with regards to the rims. I'm keeping the rim style how it is now, however they are not going to be as deep as in the above renders. I think that is what is making them appear huge.

Thanks again anyway mate,

Hehe, sorry but im blind, i thought it had the pop up headlights but it actually has the fixed ones =p

In that case it's look pretty accurate. But i believe you need to make the headlights taller.

http://www.zweck.jp/gallery/200212/img/1_bigphoto.jpg

In yours, the bonnet curves down, it should be straight onto the headlights.

And the rims look ok, but im just not use to seeing massive rims on such a small car
I'm use to 14"-16" on em

But yea..it's pretty accurate so far besides the bonnet.

Also, you mind chucking a picture of his AE86? if it's done up at all i may know him from a few AE86 forums im a regular on ^_^

Cool Mate's Sprinter

...F***...

Damn Klutchylol, you are right. I've been using the reference photos of his Sprinter just for the minor details like the interior and lights, ect, but have been using actual blueprints to model the thing...AND THEY DON'T MATCH...I'll see what I can do to fix the thing.

Cool Exterior 99% Done...

Word up all,

After fixing up some really annoying minor problems that were pointed out by other forum users, not naming any names for Klutchylol's sake (*kills Klutchylol*), I'm finaly back on track and ready to start the interior!!

The mesh still has some sharp edges, which will be fixed before the final renders of this project.

Tell me what you think so far!! Peace out,

*gets ready to run*
Either the bonnet is not low, or slanted enough.
Or the lights and grill are still not high enough.
heres where I think it should be, from looking at a few pics

*starts running*

Cool Interior

Holla!!

I started on the interior 2 days ago and here's where I'm at now. The floor isn't done, so ignore the massive tear, and as far as the actual interior of the body of the car goes, only the insides of the doors have been done.

Hope yous like!! Peace out,
