model looks sweet .i dont know which program you are using but it seemed 3dsmax to me ( i assume ur using 3dsmax it is similar in each 3d modelling programs tho)Well first add more lights in the scene.I use TargetArea lights mostly with a huge falloff. And use much lighter materials(carpaint or wotever it is called )add some more glossiness to paints and turn up the specular level value a lil .The rest is settings can be found by trial and error .Good luck !

Great for a first model and nice choice of car too. ColdFlame's advice is good. Maybe for an 'outside' feel you could get away with a skylight at about 0.75 for soft shadows and a direct light at about 1.25 with only specular checked for the highlights. You'll need to use advanced lighting and skylight can take a while to render though, but see how you get on. There is a good help section on max about rendering with skylight. I rendered my Mondeo with skylight and direct light and it came out ok.
As for materials, the magic tip for car paint is to use 'falloff' in the reflection slot and choose 'fresnel', but for an oldtimer car you may get it too shiny. I think the vintage cars were actually brush painted with enamel so maybe try to create a material that looks authentic rather than like a modern shiny finish.
Good luck

I took a little knowledge from both ColdFlame and garethgeezer. Changed the glossiness of my paint a bit, instead of making my material lighter i when with the classic black,Ill try and make the brush paint later. Instead of my lighting i went with the a skylight and made everything a nice crisp clean white for my background.

Nice render and the model is pretty nice (not totally accurate but has its own style). The only thing is that it seems to be floating in the air - the wheels aren't quite touching the ground

Thanks Again everyone i am going to try a car a little more curvaceous for my next model going to be fun. Kids are going home this Christmas to rest but not me haha. Thinking of an RX-7 or my very own(not running lol) 83 Camaro.

Again thanks a lot for the help. Some day after my schooling hopefully ill be the ones helping out beginners like myself.
