Nissan Skyline R34 GTR

hey guys
yes, another skyline, just its my favorite car and i dont care if every1 has done it before..
With this car i tried a new approach, because something had to be done about me constantly losing interest and motivation in projects. So i thought back to the projects that i had gotten far in and the ones i hadnt and reolized that there was a factor that separated the two groups. And that was how much i modeled in the first session or so.

This just means that when i first start modeling a car a have to do enough to keep me going. "Building firm foundations" i like to call it..

Anyway to the car, i started work on monday and by wednesday i had the model i have now.. Not sure what plans i have for this car, i think its going into et_fonehome's animation. I plan on doing interior for this car, but probably keep it basic but not sure. Also doing the boot on the car so i can chuck in a sound system . Might also change body kit later becoz this one is quite boring lol.

Here's a "quick" render (even tho it took 4 hours on my crappy pc) that i didnt really play around with the render settings.. C+C on just modeling for the moment as rendering i only put effort into the car paint and chrome on wheels all the rest was just to c wat the car will look like...

looks really nice but it needs more work modeling wise, you can include the meshes the door handle and some other stuff. your headlight glass material is a little too dark and your chrome is a bit funny try using gradient for your reflections.

looks nicely modelled...only thing im curious about is whether that 5 sided poly up and in front of the rear wheel will make the reflections go weird (thats what happens to me with 5 sided polys)

No massive stupid bodykit

No comment on how to improvie it, but the model itself looks good.

@jsruk: smoothed clay just for you

@The IC: 5 sided poly? yeh it probably will so i should fix it up but it has come up on any of my test renders but we'll c

@Klutchylol: haha thanx.. but i really dont deserve it becoz as the model isnt finished and i am still planning to put a spoiler on, i just wont put some massive one on now.. and with the body kit, the plan was to model it stock then maybe put a custom bumper on but im not sure if ill b bothered once i finish it..

just looking at the clay now i reolized a few things wrong with it; side windows need to be fixed (rubber surroundings) and the wheel arch is 2 sharp..
please ignore the crappy clay settings, im in a hurry to get to bed
C+C please

long time no post
havent had much time for this car
started up this project again the other day and have fixe a few things and added doorhandles and stuff.. anyway heres 2 renders.. yes i kno i suck at rendering so b nice...
btw i noticed that the glass materials suck and thats becoz i left it 2 render and didnt think it was worth another hour 2 render just bcoz of the windows and the back lights..
C+C welcome

EDIT: soz for small renders but it was in the middle of day so didnt wanna waste time on massive renders

I agree with jsruk : both HDRI and white plane(s?) above the car. Anyway, your model look good so far, keep going !

Try scenes, instead of HDRI, Hdri is harder to produce a good quality lighiting, try the MAX 9 Physical sky and sun, it works like a charm.

all i have in my scene is my car, a hdri sphere with faces facing inwards and a plane on the ground.. both the plane and the inward sphere with hdri on it with spherical environent... dont know if this is the proper way.. i still have the environment slot as white so that may b y i have funny reflections or something... also still have default lighting on, should i fix this?

Hey guys,
decided to change my approach with rendering, ive switched from Vray with HDRI domes and Vray mats to Mental Ray sun and physical sky.. This way i dont have to use a HDRI and i get more natural reflections.. only problem is i suck at non Vray mats so you will have to bear with me while i tweak them and get them goodish lol

2 renders with i think the only update is the spoiler, with the back render i didnt bother with back lights because they will take a while for me to find a good mat but i just wanted a quick render to show you guys..

C+c welcome

p.s. reolized after that the spoiler isnt attached to the boot its just floating above lol will fix

Thumbs up

Nice work so far.

One thing though, shouldn't the lower edge of side window be straighter? Now it looks like it's bending down a bit too much...

about modeling the gearstick, try just using a box and deforming it then adding a noise modifier to make it randomly crease.
