1970 ferrari 512s "coda lunga"

Hi,

This is my current project I'm doing in lightwave 3D.
It's a high-detailed model without limits of polycount and time to work at it.

The car is a 1970 sport prototype by Ferrari: the 512s in longtail version for Le Mans 24h race:

Here you're some wip renderings.

- The 5 liters v12 engine, with transmission, suspensions and disc-brakes:

- The engine with the steel-aluminium chassis, and some front parts:

Soon more images!

Ciao!
Alan

Unbelievable work. A lot of details, and I like your materials.

Seeing these pics set me a new ultimate goal for my own work. Congratulations !!!

And by the way, nice choice of car.

outstanding modeling and rendering!!

just out of interest, is lightwave rendering by it self, i know with my camaro model i have to use vray proxis to render, so i am just wondering if you are useing any add on features?

and are use using refence picture to model off or makeing up the detail? dont take that as a crit either, iam just interested if you have found picture of all that detail

great model!

I'm simply rendering using standard lightwave 8.5 materials (without shader nodes from 9.0 version). The only plugin I'm to render using is fprime to have real-time rendering to test materials.

All rivets on the chassis are in bump mapping. Create them in full 3D have could been an exagerated amount of polys!

Consider that I'm now changing my home pc with a Pentium IV 2.8mh, but the computer where I model "all" the car is my current old AMD k7 800mh. So renders have been done with my office pc...

It's impossible to model perfectly a car like that: there are too less photos avaiable to do it. Now I've about "all" the reference photos of 512s/m findable on the net in the last 3 months. Other interior details have been found from scale models images.

The blueprint is just "personal": I started from a standard short-tailed 512s tree-view sheet, and I created my own personal long-tailed version. After completing this work, if the blueprint is correct, I'll do an high-res vectorial version to left it avaiable on the blueprint section of the forum.

Ciao!
Alan

I was wondering if you had to do that, i was doing a sauber c9 (LM 1989 winner) a while ago and ran into the same problem, there were hardly any detail photos i could use

youve done a mighty fine job despite that though

I love this car, and I love where your project is heading even more!!

@The IC: best thing you can do in such a case is try to find a model kit of the car on eBay. Closest thing to the real thing I'd say. And it's fun to build

Hi,

I added the front chassis structure, with the place for the spare wheel.

Soon more improvements!

Well, I already said that but anyway : this is astonishing ! I especially like your material for metal panels inside the car.
