after hundreds of test renders heres something new i was trying to light this thing just with lights and no light planes, which proved to be a bit difficult, i like the light on the glass but it gave some weird looking reflections on the trunk area...but im here to get some fresh eyes on this so crit away.

Looks pretty good! just a couple of things....

Car Paint: Seems a little to black, maybe make the diffuse 10, 10, 10 or something higher if that's the current value.

Studio: Seems a bit dark, i suggest making it a little lighter.

Question: did you get those highlights by putting a very bright vray light facing a dark plane? Or myabe just a well placed light plain. I did that and got decent results, i had a problem where it looks like yours a little bit, but i never took it any further.

Hope that helps.

maybe mess around w/ styles like that, or maybe not as light. Just an idea.

Helicase: An enzyme that UNWINDS double-strand DNA into two single DNA strands.

u can make it a little bit more complicated
obviously the glass is highlited pretty good apart from the body which is highlighted just .. not right
if u ask me I'd do 3 different highlight sources for glass/body/wheels - excluding from illumination other ones (if glass highlighted by light set 1 body and wheels excluded and etc.) gives u more control and precision, nevertheless u'll need to try and match the light as closely as possible in order not to make render look "fake"

Hmm i really like the atmposphere, very realistic. Can you give us some more information about this setup? Do you use spotlights with vrayshadows? And i love the reflections on the glass, but you are right about the trunk area.

To get to sergo's point, you can exclude object from a light source, so you can delete the trunk area from the light and use another light for that area. I just never did that because of the complexity it brings.

Good luck with it, and maybe try to make the car paint to be a bit more metallic.

most of the things you mentioned are personal preferences i like this dark studio style the paint colour i was going for was some what of a chracoal/dark grey. i use maya and my renderer is mental ray and like i said earlier i used only lights no planes or anything else. thanks for the comments.

well for the scene, none of the lights are directly illuminating the car, they are all being bounce from a dome to give it a diffused look, and nope theres no vray here just maya and mental ray, i might post a screen shot of how the setup looks like.
