Ferrari Testarossa engine and Transaxel

Just thought I would post the Ferrari Testarossa engine I have been working on to see what you guys/gals think.

It is not exact and is missing a lot of fine details but I am afraid I don't have the time or intrest to go much deeper in the details....... The wife and 3 kids would never see me if I did.

I know I need a lot of work on the materials, I have much to learn when it comes to materials. So any suggestions would be welcome.

I know the Ferrari is spelled wrong on the motor (Ferreri).......I did this to keep the the lawyers off my back!!!!!!

what lawyers?? we have lawyers here on smc??? besides, what are they going to do, sue you for building their motor? we have so many people here model other stuff not one had a problem, so i saw change it to ferrari..

anywho, great job on the motor, really nice job, one question though, the copper tubes or pipes at the back, do they really bend like?

The fuel line tubing on the real engine probably does not bend like I have modeled it........... but it should!

Thanks for the words of encouragement.

As far as the lawyers go, Ferrari and Ford are pretty annal when it comes to trademark/Logo infringement. I have run into this before, so I figured it would be best to avoid any problems.

Engine looks very good but... Do you really think that Ferrari has nothing better to do than catching people that makes things with their name on it ??

Great details for a great model!

I Hope to see some improvements about materials!

Where did you find references and blueprints?

Thanks for the works of encouragement Alan. The material for cast alumunium is the one that is kicking my butt. But I will keep trying.

I used pictures and imagination as my reference material.

I did not mean for this to become a discussion on trade mark infringement. I have had some minor experiences in the past that have taught me not mess around in this area. Better to be safe than sorry.......... besides two thirds of the people, outside this web site, probably would not even notice that Ferrari is misspelled

Unluckily I know what are you meaning!

In 2003, I was working on a lowpoly (5k) Ferrari Enzo. It was created for videogames: a "Ferrari Enzo challenge" mod for EA F1 Challenge 99/02. It was a free project done for free with D.I.D.T. (DrivingItalia.net Development Team).

DrivingItalia.net commercial office asked directly to Ferrari S.p.a. the authorization to release for free on the web this mod. It hadn't cost absolutely nothing to Ferrari because our team had developed everything until an advanced level of work, and it could be a great advertisment both for Drivingitalia.net and for Ferrari.

The answer from Maranello was a direct "NO". The mod project, quite finished, was completely abandoned, and DIDT completely finished to exist because of this terrible news! It was the end of an year of work for free in our spare time. :x

Ferrari deleted our dreams simply with 2 letters!

You're in right, Daytonatim, but don't be exagerated! Ferrari lawyers are occupied with other bigger problems than your "Ferreri" logo. Me too, I'm modeling an old and rare Ferrari, as you can notice in my sign, but Ferrari didn't send me mails or message until now! Surely I prefer that Ferrari know nothing about my 512s work, but I'm really proud to model a race car like that, that is a '70s italian masterpiece of engineering.

And, when I'll finish it, I'll model it's natural enemy: 1970 Porsche 917 lh (means long tail) with Martini racing psychedelic livery.

I think that don't use original logo for a 3d masterpiece like your boxer is worse than don't use it! Luca Cordero di Montezemolo probably will be happy to see your passion in your engine!

Continue to model it, and don't be worried!

LOL, just listen: how many people have modeled a Ferrari ?? Almost every carmaker has modeled or triet to model one. And how many people was busted cause of this ?? I don't know about anyone who does.

And with this mod for F1... Did you wanna sell it or was it supposed to be free ?? Because if it was supposed to be free, than why did you stopped it ?? Just look at the GTA-series sites. They are just full of ferraris for download.

Ferrari aren't such bad guys anyway, they let me check out an F355 twice up close in the showroom.
As long as you don't plan to make money of it you can do whatever you want with it I think. Even Alanguer's example seems extreme; i know of plenty of big mods for racing games that get released for free when including real cars.

Well I played around with the materials last night. I think I have something that is a little better. I am definately more into the geometry aspect of modeling.....not the aesthetic, but I will keep trying.

As far as the "Ferreri" logo is concerned....... this is just a personal decision made on my part. Believe me.... I am not trying to change anyone's mind here.

I just did not want anyone to think I did not know how to spell Ferrari.

The text "erreri" is modeled as extruded text and I have not colapsed the stack. Therefore anyone who should have the model can easily modify the text to say whatever they like.

You know, it's such a shame that Ferrari don't make ALL their components, as that standard Bosch/Lucas/whatever alternator looks so out of place when fitted to the front of such a beautiful engine!
Great work
