Smile Low poly 450sl

Hey everybody,

Done some sweet models in 3d Max of my own concept cars. Thought I'd have a go at doing a low poly car for the driving sim 'racer'. (attached.:?, other is same car from the web)

The car is a Mercedes 450 sl roadster. So far I've done the front, it looks better than I expected I'd do. So far the polycount is 2264 for the front. If anyone has advice on what I should do to keep it low poly, or how to put this car in racer that would be awesome.

nice start

i drew red lines on the edge loops that you could probably get rid of, they dont seem to affect the shape of the car very much

looking good, jsut do as IC has proposed, you don't need those extra rows of polys.

Lovely start! Looks as smooth as a lowpoly car can get!
Keep that up!

That doesn't look bad.

I agree with The IC, loose these loops. I'd like to add that maybe you could try to round out the fog lights under the bumper a bit and to define the shape of the frontskirt more, looks a bit wobbly at the moment.

Smile Model finished for the moment

Finally finished this model. It is starting to take up more time than I intended. So it has been quickly finished so that I can quickly import it into 'racer'. Admittedly I know that it just spoils having a good model if you hurry finishing it off, but I only wanted to devote a few days to it. Ive also roughly modeled around door seals and arranged the car contours so that I can easily convert it to a High poly model. But in the end, seeing the model against the actual car, it is quite accurate for what it is.

Here are some pics of the final product, I'll be hopefully learn proper car texturing in the future so that I can do more with the model. But I'm not doing anything else to this model for now except releasing it.

I've hit a slight snag with converting the model from .ase format to .dof through the 'racer' modeler program (current version crashes and the previous version's export dof doesnt work), so it might be some time before I release it for use in the game.

So when it comes out I'll post it here dints and all, and I'll work on smoothing them out when the reflections starts bugging me

:? Also, does anyone know where I can find some decent tutorials for the 'racer modeler' program. Or if you've been having trouble with the same program where I can download a working version of modeler (for racer version 0.53 beta 4) .:?

Thanks again for the feedback so far!
