Hello folks, Dame Edna's back!
I found some spare time to finish the detailing and do a very basic interior.

nb - come on, this car can't be that ugly -- compared to its bigger brother the 60 Plymouth, which is really an awful design.
Consider that within a short time all American cars would turn into slabs, and years would elapse (until around 196 before they grew some curves back. You are seeing Virgil Exner's last thematics before Chrysler ungratefully sent him home.

mpfive, Niray, thanks!

So i decided to change the "Valiant Red" for "Silver" and it added up to the car lines, looks so much more fleeting. Other colors from the original chart would be "Twilight Blue", "Chrome Green" and "Oyster White".
It was really pleasing to do this model, as i said before it lived long in the back of my mind and i hope to have done it full justice (the rear bumper needs cutting out the license plate part, i just noticed. Oh well...).

Thanks people, and excuse me for the misnaming. As said in the first post, Valiant was originally a brand in itself, the first in the ladder: Valiant-Plymouth-Dodge-DeSoto-Chrysler-Imperial. But in its second year it became part of the Plymouth line and nowadays the car is known as Plymouth Valiant, any model year.

Very Nice! I like the color for this current shot! very true about the large cars they were not drawing people in to the showrooms. this was a very good idea for its time.

It's great you have finished it. In my vew the model is almost perfect, in fact I can't even see any problems with the rear bumper.

I suspected Exner was responsible for this. It somewhat resembles all these designs for Duesenberg, Stutz, etc. that appeared in the 60s. It seems like because of the total lack of new ideas (the slabs to come) the attempt was made to adapt elements from the cars of the 30s... This is sad because some of his earler designs were really great.

definately not a fan of this design, it doesn't look right, and many parts like the flares on the side look patched on and not like they are meant to be there...

nb - Exner had his time, he brought new a fresh design standard to Detroit other than Harley Earl's own.
As for the "revivals" (Stutz, Mercer and others) i must confess i was exhilarated at the time. I think it was the opposite, updating the cars from the 20s into 60s' "language". I still like them, they have definite Exner features. Interesting link on Exner's work, as told by his son:
A Conversation with Virgil Exner, Jr.

Silent][Moebius - don't worry if you don't like the design. Dame Edna will boldly glide into Eternity...
