The Forgotten Garage of Lost Cars - 1975 Riviera

It's time for a new project! ... So I've never been one to make very many vehicles that are common to see as 3d models. That explains the title of the thread.

I intend to create quite a few vehicles that usually aren't done in 3d in this thread.

Now that you're properly briefed, let me introduce you to my first car. A 1975 Buick Riviera!

I've actually got more done of this car as of now, I'm just too lazy to get a new render up onto this machine for such a relatively low amount of changes.

Not sure what the final triangle count will be - I'm not expecting it to reach over 40k though

**edit**

Okay, now we've a later render up ... Tires are temporary, and I've got to make the corners smaller on the license plate holder thing... they look like they're about twice as round as they should be.

I might also add a bit more detail to the headlight and turn signal frames, since they're the only thing that really stands out to me...

The crease at the top is because I haven't really welded or finished up the fender area where it meets the hood.

This thing's so much like modeling the '88 caprice so far . car bodies sure changed a lot in those 13 years

Oh yeah, and if you're wondering, the reason I chose this car in specific was because it was a GTA vehicle... and you almost never see them on the road anymore. I actually haven't seen a single one of these cars since I started playing GTA3

I guess you got a typo in the title should be 1975 instead of 1974?

Anyways looking forward, I love these old Riviearas aswell

Nice, I am eagerly awaiting your finished model! you are right about the license frame edges are little too round, but the shots look great!!! let me know if you need any other cars that are not normally seen....will see what I can do to post BP's here.

Well, so far the vehicles you've been drawing out are right up there with the kinds of vehicles I'd like to create... perhaps more early 90's ones or late 80's... like the chevy beretta, cavalier, lumina, and even stuff like the 90's lincoln town car...

not sure if you're into newer car drawings, but an '03 buick century is also on my list of cars to make worst case scenario I could just use the little carpoint pics we have currently... that and a '98 malibu.

but again, I'm hoping to be employed soon, so I might not even get around to making many cars very quickly. We'll see.

good luck on the work prospect! I know how that is in regards in time to do cars, but the free time you can use for that. I will see about a 1990 Lincoln Town car. One of my favorites. I will print out this list and see where my imagination takes me. I still have left the 1985 aries K started, but yet to finish. may even do the big 1970's lincoln town car too.... am currently planning a Buick Electra from 1971, 72, and 1975 in sedan form, possible also for the coupes. 98 Regency for the same years. almost done with 1975 biscayne sedan for police service, and Impala sport sedan from 1976. I would like to do the lumina and beretta's too. the 98 Malibu may also be done.will put them on the new list.

Levi Man 2001 I will see about that Chevy truck....just keep watching! 1967-72 Chevy/GMC. My Dad had a 69' for a work truck and a friend of mine had a 72 stepside for many years. can put up BP's for those.

Okay, it's been a while since my last update on this, mostly because I've been loaded with stuff other than vehicles... But now I've finally got an update!...

well, the riviera update has been on the plate for a long time now, and for some reason, I just never got around to uploading it here... Not sure what happened there, as I was excited about this update.

Buick Riviera (1975)

Got quite a bit more detail shown in the car... fixed up some issues, and here's the renders of that:

and an ambient occlusion pass render, which I don't care for as much, just because of the oversmoothness of the shadows:

Note to self : Fix the issue that makes the bottom trim look like it's pushed up into the car body... (angular bottom line, rather than straight)

Chevrolet Caprice Classic Brougham (1988)
My mom's car, or ... used to be before a dodge neon proved it could brake twice as quickly as the caprice...

I figured I might as well revive this car yet ANOTHER time, (I think this is like the 8th time I've modeled this car?) in my most accurate model yet... This is also my turbosmoothing method testing guinea pig. If I like the process, and think it provides something more than my mid-poly modeling, which is the way I'm modeling the Smart Fortwo (2000), then I might make all these vehicles Turbo-Smooth models... But I'm not sure, so far it's proving to take more time than I'd like to spend modeling... 6 hours just for this much of the car doesn't seem worth it to me...

So yeah, tell me what you think!

(the oddities in the reflections on both this, and the smart fortwo, in my Light is Right competition thread have been resolved, as I was doing something to practically double the intensity of the reflection... that needn't happen, hahahaa)

Now for some reading, if you so desire:

So far my plan for the vehicles in Motor City is pretty rediculous:

1975 Buick Riviera
1988 Chevrolet Caprice
2000 Smart Fortwo
1986 Cadillac Sedan Deville
1996 Chevrolet Caprice
1999 Ford Crown Victoria
1990 Pontiac Grand Prix
1991 Mercury Cougar XR-7
1990 Ford Taurus
2000 Dodge Intrepid
1999 Toyota Celica SS-II
1984 Pontiac Fiero SE
1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera
1999 Chevrolet Suburban
1997 Chevrolet C1500 Long-bed Pickup
1990 Ford F-150 Crew Cab
2000 Ford Windstar
2000 Ford F-150
2000 Ford E-250 Ambulance
(firetruck)
2001 Buick Century
1984 Dodge Aeris K Car
1984 Dodge Aeris Wagon
1993 Lincoln Town Car
2000 Freightliner Century
1997 Peterbilt .... something or other

... So... that being said, I really need to create a script for Motor City... If I don't know who all is in the movie, and what cars they drive, I'm not approaching this crazy stupid list properly bwahahaa.... I mean, especially with the level of detail I'd like to add to the cars

(I might also start a volunteer-based team of modelers (read: no compensation other than names in the credits) once I come up with rock-solid standards and conventions for the vehicle creation process.

But let's leave all that thought process for after I actually figure out what's going down in Motor City

(again, this thread is just the vehicles of motor city)

Nice carlist you got there, good to see you have normal cars there and not only super cars. Especially looking forward to see those Aeris'

(And if you need volunteers, I would be interested for sure :])

This carlist is just awesome!!! And I really mean it like I say, wonderful cars, just wow. R u planning to model them midpoly, maybe even give permission to convert it to games so people can enjoy them?

not 100% sure about the downloadability of the vehicles. If and when I start up the team, that would complicate the downloadability issue even further, since some folks may not want their vehicles so easily shared out like that...

I would like to say though, that each and every vehicle created for this project, and perhaps other assets as well, will have their 3d blueprints posted here

The list, btw, is very far from complete... hahaha
