My First Model!

Hi people. I just started learning Maya at uni and now I am already working on the final project for the semester - I decided to model and render an Audi R8, using the blueprints found on this site.

Here's what I have so far. Most of what I've done have been cobbled together using various tutorials and manuals I've read. I hope to post more progress here in the future

Very good for a first model, but I cannot help giving you a criticism. I hope that you won't be upset, but I really hope that you can use the following criticism for your own good so that your future models may become much better!

THE CAR IS FALLING APART! If blown up to real life, the space between the doors and the rest of the car must be at least two inches! The sill under the door is at least five inches away from the rear quarters! The black air scoop behind the door is too separate from the car! Nothing on the car seems to align!

Fortunately, this is easy fo fix... simply move the vertices around to close up the gaping holes in the car, and tadaa, you now have a high-quality model! Then, just finish up the car by modeling the details.

Again, very good model for your first car... much better than my first model.

No problem, thanks for the replies.

I understand it looks like the panels are floating in mid air at the moment, but it is still in a really rough state, so I will be tweaking everything.

I need some advice on some parts of the modeling. I hope some one might be able to answer these noob questions for me

- Is it possible to use booleans to punch holes in subdiv surfaces at all??
- As for alignment of the various panels, whats the best way of ensuring a good fit? Should i align the vertices in polygon mode or should I align them after converting to subdiv, or is there a better way?

thanks! I will post more pics once I have something decent

OK I've refined the front of the car more and added in a grill. Still need more aligning. Next would either be the headlights / air intake, or more body panel work.

More progress, a little slower though. Modelled in the windows and fitted all the panel seams (except for the doors). Next: rear view mirrors and redo the doors with more detail.

Also testing out a simulated studio lighting scheme. I still need to find a good material to use for the windows...
