Since I don't want to get kicked, here is my current WIP

It's strictly for my own purpose and not for any specific game, certianly not a old one due to the polygon-detail. I'm aiming for a 95 Mustang GT or std. Cobra since it's a fairly affordable car that I hope to be able to buy one day.

It's far from finished and I'm a rookie-modeler so.....

Frank, it's good to see you're around somewhere still.

The Mustang looks like a good start. You seem to have a few more polys than you need to get the job done, but for a first shot, i wouldn't worry about it at all, they're pretty easy to cut anyhow, once its done.

Since I don't want to get kicked, here is my current WIP

Hi, yes it's been a while but sadly a lot of things has happend these last months in my life, and just about all were bad. I can barely drive a car-sim anymore due to my bad health that can't stand the driving position with the MS FF wheel and pedals despite a specific setup givin near car-like driving position. I haven't even driven for real the whole month since I can't stand the stressing danish city-traffic here, people are driving more and more recklessly here sadly and the Peugeot 206 is sounding like it's falling apart. Modeling is mostly all I got now, especially with Windows XP refusing to run anything before NFS5 and the Radeon 9600 Pro won't run Racer in more than 16 bit, but without the wheel it doesn't matter much anyway.

I sincerely hope you are doing better though.

Greetings
Frank

Hmm... Okay... You got the shape quite right, but uhm.. That are just too much polies for ZM
I mean, with more polies, it gets difficult to NOT make any little mistakes (like bumps in the mesh etc)...
But okay, it looks good

Since I don't want to get kicked, here is my current WIP

Hi Heyl, no my problems are not fixed, I actually upgraded to XP, but since I made on test-update, a supposedly clean install and then being forced to do it all over again and format the new harddrive after XP locking it after returning my new mb then I'm out of XP unlocking registrations and I'm not sure if it can be fixed. I don't spend that lond behind the screen at a time since my pain and fatigue has increased. I tried Racer 0.5.0 Final but I quickly got tired of it again since it's clear that GPL-driving has made me loose all driving feel with it. And then there was the pain in my legs due to the driving position so there's no need to help on the Racer-Radeon problem since it will soon be un-installed. Thanks for the offer though

The model is high-poly because my aim is to create a close resemblance to the real thing, and sadly the SN95 Mustang is very curvy so I couldn't do with much less. Ryan T has given me some great techniques and with the editing tools of ZM then cleaning up the bumps in the mesh is not that big a problem when I just take the time it takes.

Btw, I tried the Racer Jaguar Mk.2, very very impressive graphics (even though I could only see 16 bit)!

Sounds like it hasn't been a very fun time for you Frank. I hope things start going better soon.

As to XP unlocking, there are, i believe ways to undo the locking process. I seem to recall seeing something that referred to the telephone tech support part of microsoft, that a tech might be able to walk you through the process. Especially if you returned the harddrive because it was defective, you should be able to work something out with MS, i think...

Glad you liked the Jaguar model. I am going to begin work soon on an update that will fix some things on it, most notably the handling, to bring that more in line with the graphics end of it. Racer hasn't gotten any easier to make handle correctly in your absence... But i am now at the point that i see little or no reason to modify the pacejka at all, which i consider to be progress.

Looking forward to seeing some more shots of your Mustang.

No it hasn't been fun, in fact I haven't even driven for real more than once this month but I just can't drive the 206 anymore. The car I thought was a dreamcar when the Orion had to go has now ruined real driving for me

I did a initial extrusion of the rest of the side polygons to get started on the front bumper and the hood (GT/Cobra, not the double-bump Cobra R one). I need to sit back and look at my reference-picture library to appraise the shape of the side between the wheels on the three key parts. behind the front wheels, at the rear-end of the door and in-front of the rear wheels.

Hi Benny, yeah it's been a while. I posted a message at the 3D Designerz forum some time ago but you never responded to it, but it's ok now. Hope you are doing well

Greetings
Frank

See, the thing is that I've ordered a Radeon 9600pro, and I'd be very sad if it only worked in 16bit...
You seem to have the general shape down, show a pic with maybe another color and without the wireframe on.

I can understand that. When I first bought a Radeon 9500 Pro (Sapphire Atlantis) two months or so ago I also had the same problem and then I still ran Racer. It however crippled every program on my computer, including Windows 98 itself so I returned after over a week of trying to get it right. A month ago, after waiting in vain for a cheaper model 9600 Pro Fireblade then I accidentally spotted a 9600 Pro Ultimate Edition with chromed cooling pipes etc. and it was better so I got it and a Windows XP SP1 upgrade and I'm running that now and there hasn't been any of the problems that I had under 98 with the 9500, except the 16-bit Racer issue. I returned the Asus A7V8X-X mb that had AGPx8 due to sound-problems and I re-stalled my one year old Asus A7V266-C AGPx4 but then I overran my unlock limit to XP, and I didn't even know it had one. I'm going to call MS DK soon and talk to them to find out if I still have my right to use the OS due to my hardware problems.

Oh yeah I nearly forgot:

This is the only thing I found at the moment at the forum. Good luck

Greetings

P.S. Even with the 3 year old Creative GeForce 2 MX AGP-card I went up fast in performance after I upgraded Windows 98 to XP, from 2 to 13 mill. triangles/second in EA Sports benchmark. The R9600Pro UE does 49 and even MS FS2002Pro with everything on in 1280x1024x32 pulls over 10 fps and runs acceptably smooth

P.P.S. I forgot: The Mustang hasn't had any normals done so a wireframe-less picture wouldn't do much, and regardin colours then I really don't know much about how to change that, let alone how to map so....
I got a private teacher though so it's no problemo.

Well you got flatshading on so taking the wf off dont hurt...
CLick on the red sphere up in the toolbar and you can change the color without having to map it...

Get icq instead of messenger, I can give you some more advice there...

Ouch Frank, I'm really sorry to hear your sorrows. May I ask what happened to you, were you in a wreck or something?

About the Car, yes its very high polywhich is ok if you can handle the polys, but I think you can. You seem to really putting a lot into this, I can see that by how the polys follow the lines of the prints very closely. As people are saying problem with higher polys is it harder to keep the car clean. I use flatshading to start out with and I mostly use my eyes to model after I know the polys are in the right spot. I use pictures and my eyes, mostly angle shots. Its good to see your taking up modeling. I might have over-read if this is your first car, but if it is its very very good. if its not then its still good lol. Anyhow thanks for showing and I hope good fortune shines your way.

Since I don't want to get kicked, here is my current WIP

Hi, well it's a long road starting with my dad dying of cancer acouple of christmases ago and since have gone downhill since then and has destroyed my education but enough about that.

I have something else to do (mainly getting my life started finally) but I've studied enough pictures from eBay Motors etc. to make the rocker-panel get the right shape and that will be one more dependable fixing-point to make sure the rest of the shape is more authentic but that will have to wait untill later.

Greetings
Frank
