Hi all,

A weird thing is happening when I do a render test with volume light effect (using a omni as source) to simulate the ON light. The case is that the glow is visible from the back of the light case, where the geometry is supossed to block it -please see pic 1.

If I exclude the front car geometry to avoid that (picture 2), then you can see the glow but without actually lighting anything.

Also attached a snapshot of the scene if that help to detect an error on setup.

Please don't mind decals as they are low resolution at the moment.

Any tip on this will be greatly appreciated!

well it seems like the omni isn't casting a shadow at all. i don't know whether there is an extra option to activate shadows... or maybe you have shoved the light too far inside the mesh so it shines out?

Hi all,

Thanks all for comments and tips. I discarded the idea of glow on head lights at the moment, it looks very messy with GI enabled.

Done a test render with a darker background. Still windows and tires materials need work.

Cheers, Joe.

Thanks man!

I have been trying to simulate those lightplanles provided with vray and finalRender using planes with self-ilumination enabled and using a gradient ramp as difusse map without any good result. I tried many combinations; nothing good comes out.

Then I just downloaded the vary demo and setup the scene very quick using three lightplanes. Hope someone knows how to simulate lightplanes with mentalray (wich is the renderer I'm using). Some materials where lost when switching to vary, but right now I'm fosussed on studio setup.

Sorry about the watermark.

New angle and some work on materials (carbon fiber is bad mapped, I'll fix it)

I would like to know your opinion of this one compared with those done with mentalray.

Bye, Joe.

I think it looks very good. Its hard for me to tell any real differences ( given I dont have the images side by side)
On another note Id like to apologize for lack of replys to your thread. I believe Ive said that before however I will say this we are thinking of putting in a system to limit prints to people with zero or little posts. And it wont be about posts to bypass it ( ie people spamming for numbers). Anyhow no reason to tell you but I just feel that people like yourself deserve more replys.

talk about deja vu...when i was doing my sauber c9 a while ago (got an old WIP thread if you wanna have a look), i switched to vray while making it too...never finished it though...your body is much smoother than mine was

i think your MR ones look better at the moment, but once you get you head around vray it should start looking nice...just search the forum, people have posted links to some good vray sites here that go through the basics

and you should go to your Bitmap map and change filtering to "None" so that the stickers dont go blurry when theyre at an angle to the camera

Current WIPs: SuperGT stuff
