Oh thanks man, I really apreciate your words. About the renders and shaders I guess is a good thing you didn't notice any big diference; I was trying to get a nice lighting arrangement, and as I was feeling I didn't have one with mentalray I tried with vray. I can conclude it is not a render engine knowledge problem but a proper scene setup.

About the aparent lack of responses, I apreciate your concern, but it may be because many reasons. One of them I think is that not many people knows or like this type of car; other reason, and for sure the most probable is this is a huge forum, with many CG related topics, and not all the time people are doing the same things. While some are searching/uploading blueprints, other may be watching similar cars to get any tip or clue.

I myself are a not very common poster, I promise I'll try to reach the best equilibrium in what I got from this site (a lot!) and what I can give in return.

Anyway I feel very confortable and encouraged by the posts people have shared in this wip, some of wich have been very helpufull.

@ The Ic: we where writing at the same time, but your post came firts!. I have just saw your C9 it is awesome. You have plenty of details there, I liked very much the interior you did (cockpit + front); also the engine was in an advanced stage. You can bet I'll be inspired by your thread man, thanks for pointing it. I wonder why you say you didn't finishedt it? It looks prety complete to me (unless you are talking about engine?)

Thanks again, Joe.

some nice work here, incredibly smooth. though you should but some work into the body/paint material it looks like plastic, the reflections are too soft on it imo.

nevertheless keep up the good work.

Hey, long time since my last post here!

Due my continous failure doing a good studio render with this car, I tried an exterior one.

I used a background of a huge free cg highway found on the web (that's why you can see the uper-right credits). Anyway just a test, no decals, no blur.

I think this car looks better out on the road than into a studio room

Cheers, Joe.

now that is a pure hot render man. This really make things interesting. The way i see it, if you can pull of a composition than that is way better than a simple studio.

Thanks so much guys for those kind comments, really very much apreciated.

I'm trying to find (or in the worse model myself) a nice and sharp looking highway, but surprisingly they are hard to find (that's my way to ask if anybody knows a site with good looking roads )

Thanks all, Joe.

I may be wrong, but I think you'll have a hard time to top that highway scene. I love the monochrome feel it has. I could easily see that in a photobook. Its really top I myself need to learn how to do exterior renders on top of photos (need a tutorial though)

Thanks guys!

@Catlin: good catch. The rear wheel arch is wrong; I think I moved a couple of vertex and did't noticed it until the last render using an almost orthogonal side angle. I guess the perspective disguised the error on previus shoots and I didn't get the error. I noticed it after the last render: I'll fix that error.

Thanks!, Joe.

Fixed bad rear wheel arch geom, and added some more transparency to side and front windows.

Cheers Joe.

The scene setup is lovely : I really like ground shader, colors and lighting.

The car looks awesome clean and smooth. But it's almost too clean : the grain of tires is almost unnoticeable, the paint looks almost flat, and so on. I know how hard it's to break that feeling, so I wish you good luck if you want to enhance your work that way.

Some critics about texturing : the one with pilots names is slightly lower resolution, and the MICHELIN text on tires looks like strechted to a circle slower than the rim : the left side of M and right side of N doesn't converge to the wheel center.

Anyway, I really appreciate your work. Keep us updated !

Thanks tom120934,

All valid and well pointed issues. I'll work them all asap, specially the Michelin map, it's a very noticeable error.

About car paint, I'll try a complete new shader. This one is nice but it burns out so quickly when light is facing it that it almost vanish decals.

Cheers! Joe.

or you could keep the silver paint shader, and use composite material to make a new less reflective shader for the stickers which would be blended with a black and white bitmap mask

also, are you gonna do the 1988 scheme?

hey man, thanks for the tip, I'll try that.

About 1988 scheme ... man, if I had the quarter of your skills doing those fantastics unwraps, I would already. I'll may give it a try. This scheme can not be done with just decals/stickers, it will need a complete unwrap modifier.

BTW, Have you ever thought about doing an unwrap tutorial?. I saw how you "unfloded" some parts rotating them, but I didn't get how you would use that in the unwrap process (maybe normal or box/top mapping in the editor?). Very VERY good and complete work on your Super GT thread, really.

@nzjimmy2001: thanks a lot dude!

Cheers all, Joe.
