I tried to find a good low poly model of BMW E30 to use in my game project, but couldn't find any... One problem was that I need all the different models of the car, pre-facelift + MTech1, facelift + MTech2, Touring, Cabrio and M3.
So, because I couldn't find a model or anyone willing to do it for me I decided to give it a try myself. This is my very first 3D model ever, except for some boxes and such that I've made for testing (ie. programmer's art).
I started with the front fender, moved on to the hood, the grille and front bumper. I'm doing all my modeling in DeleD, so I don't have any fancy stuff like automatic mirroring and such, so I'm modeling the car in one side of each component at a time, then I'll merge then halves to final model and store it for later use for the other variations of the E30.
The current polycount is 458 for the first half of the front end, combining the halves it's a bit under 1800 tris. I'm aiming for ~6000 tris for the whole and and definitely under 10000.
I've just made all the necessary parts for the front end of the car and now I need to start finetuning the models...
Any hints, tips and comments on low poly modelling would be very helpful. Remember that this is my first model, so bear with me.
