Well first off that car looks awsome, never seen it before, but for some reason maybe perspective or angle, I think its off in some areas. I made a drawing to help you out. Again it maybe be the factors I listed but it appears off to me.
1. From that picture it looks like it goes more straighter up with a curve.
2. Yours seems to straight, which makes the car look longer, the way I see it in the picture it looks like it starts angling upward further forward on the car.
3. The Nose seems kind of large, the pictures looks a bit smaller
4. The little winglets or whatever you want to call them look like they should be longer.
5. The nose looks like its flatter on the bottom ( probably not as flat as I made it. but flat on bottom.
Anyhow maybe if I see it with tires on it , the car will come into better focus. Anyhow looks great so far, keep it up and please keep us updated.

Sweet ... love those older F1 cars !
Icekid's commments seems to be pretty accurate when comparing the picture and model, but just minor details ofcourse
looking forward to seeing this one progressing !

Nice one, Icekid. Sometimes you need a spare pair of eyes. You're right about everything, but '1' and '2' look pretty accurate from the side reference pics I have, it's probably a combination of the angle and the perspective making it look 'off'. There were also lots of versions and modifications of this thing 'cause it was such a dog on the track  , so there may be a few differences between that pic and some of the others I have.
Thanks for the feedback though, keep 'er coming. I'll keep working on it.
Edit: R2Wrace2win, I use polymodelling method, no meshsmoothing modifiers - I haven't got to grips with Cinema 4D's HyperNURBS yet, I can never seem to get accurate creases, but this seems to be working ok for me.

Quick update. Made the suggested adjustments, added some of the smaller body details and tyres. The mirrors are from another version that I have more reference photos of. Dreading the engine...

Ive really taken affection to this car, its so sweet in design. I usually dont care for F1 cars and such. But this is a very nice car. So Ive got another picture. I hope the picture can have more than my words. It just seems though that the front is more smooth, yours seems to have several rises as the nose goes onto the front glass.

Right again, Icekid. I'd noticed that quite a while back but I'd been putting it off 'cause it's a dense area of the mesh. I'll get to it soon. Thanks again for replying.
Cheers, majestic. The mirrors come from a different version than the pic, I just have more photos of that particular setup. I'll post more r/l pics later. Thanks for the feed back, though.

Another small update. Wheels added, some changes to the mesh (thanks, Icekid) and started the first few steps on the V8. This is my first attempt at modelling an engine so it should be...educational... :?

Sweet, a nice update I think I know why I thought it was off. I hope my C&C doesnt go to far hehe, I see something about the front thats bugging me,but I think I'll keep quiet and let you get further with the car. Anyhow so far the car looks great the engine looks sweet.
BTW : WHere on earth do you find pictures of this thing? Ive searched using a (usually) very reliable search engine ( Kartoo.com) and come up with zilch.

Hey NightEye, thanks for that link - there was a couple of pictures on the Dutch Google that hadn't come up on the English one a couple of weeks ago. Odd...
I also use Altavista.com's Image search - it usually pulls the most results.
Thanks for the f/b. Icekid, if you see something else, don't be afraid to point it out - that's why we post here, right? I'm still not completely happy about the way the top canopy flows into the nosecone, so that's on the to-do list.

hehe well I was still concerned with the nose. But then I looked at the other pictures from that google link and well models differ in places. I still think the nose should be more Jet like. Anyway I really think I should wait untill its got more color so I can differentiate the lines of the car.
But if this gives you any ideas this little color codeing thing I made gives you any ideas, then IVe done my job. Keep it up

Wow... . I agree that the top of the nose gets flatter towards the front, it's tough because that whole area is such an odd shape, it's difficult to get the lines right in every dimension. And they appear different in every picture. :?
I've made the cockpit aperture flow better (although you can't see it in this pic..just trust me on that one... ). The rest I'm going to take a break on and work on the engine. Maybe it will look more accurate with some paint to bring out the highlights. Here's what I have so far:
